Thai social media went into meltdown as a flimsy paper sign left on a Bangkok pedestrian roadbridge caused outrage.

 

The sign warned of getting an electric shock just by touching the handrail.

 

Though half obliterated by what appeared to be rain damage the sign seemed to be suggesting grasping the rail on the other side of the steps to avoid electrocution.

 

The small print in English also said caution of electric shock, if your eyesight was good enough!

 

JS 100 Radio had shared the pictures from Jromerz with Channel 7 news' caption saying: Just this as a warning sign?

 

The bridge in question is at the end of Boromratchachonnanee Soi 68 in Thawee Wattana district in western Bangkok.

 

In latest developments the local authority said they had contacted relevant agencies.

 

The electrical authorities said that their wires were not the cause but that minor shocks could be caused by other cables coming into contact with the bridge and other agencies were on the case to do repairs. 

 

Meanwhile: Don't touch the handrail!

On the building sites they have some cracking posters though........I see the Myanmar workers walking passed them in their flip-flops........... paying no notice to them though.

I don’t touch handrails in Thailand or Wherever , Escalators especially just washing my hands in Men’s room never see them washing or two fingers under water no soap , I don’t eat street food either 

Of course the bridge should be closed if it isn't safe, but that thought would never occur to them. And to think there are many expats here who are in Thailand to avoid the 'nanny state' in their own country. Guess where I would feel safer.

I'd feel ten times safer to be back in Bangkok rather than Boston. 

the English version Sign could easily have been made much simpler (not necesarily better though)
