Ian_B Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 To everybody that has a chipped 360 it appears Microsoft are able to detect it if you play online and will block all online gameplay I was thinking of finally getting my 360 chipped at MBK but will hold off for now Full story is here: http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/200.../17/545414.aspx
LivinLOS Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 (edited) Thats not strictly true.. MS cannot detect modded 360's at this time.. They can however detect that a 360 is running a backup disc IF your running old firmware.. theres new firmware out that makes even this detection system stealth and is still 'safe'.. Personally I unhook my console each time the spring and fall updates come on and let others play the risk game.. I have not yet plugged either back in and will sit out a month or so.. LivinLOS Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Reading more.. Looks so far like many people who have been caught out were using a copy crackdown to play halo 3 beta.. Perhaps the two are linked..
phazey Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Yeah, it's not the spring update, it's the software that detects modded boxes. I'm a bit pissed off cos i never initially wanted a modded box, but the wife suprised me and got one (pre modded). Alough this pissed me off, i was thankful - the thing that WILL piss me off is playing al my original games, paying for a gold sub, and still getting banned because MS don't have the balls to constructs legitimate resellers in Thailand, Or most of Asia. we'll see, until i 100% confirm the method, i aint going on live. Their clause is nice though "this box id banned, but you can play from another" == "we'll continue taking your money"
cdnvic Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 I know there were a lot of complaints about people with mods making an uneven playing field for online gamers. Coupled with the piracy aspect I'm not surprised they're still doing this. (It started in 2004)

Coupled with the piracy aspect I'm not surprised they're still doing this. (It started in 2004) I fail to understand your argument.. What mods exist on live ?? And at the same time MS opens up live to vista gaming where the PC realm will not have signed code issues and modding seems much more likely. I unplugged before spring update and havent been on since then.. Hopefully that will be enough to keep this safe to work out whats going on but if I had to choose between no live and mods or nor backup games and live it would be modded and offline.. Funny how once again they waited for Halo.. I suspect that the halo beta and the crackdown disc may be involved.. Perhaps they really mastered each crackdown disc unique (it was a limited amount that had halo keys wasnt it).. Small run to sniff out the copiers. xbox-scene is getting hammered today.. ..
Ian_B Posted May 18, 2007 Author Posted May 18, 2007 I'm sticking with my umodded 360... only modded console I have is my Wii I order my games from the UK, delivered to my folks home in UK. Only costs a few quid airmail and 2 days later I have the original game delivered. Not lost a game this way in 18 months
phazey Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 yeah, i'm stuck on page 4 of the thread on xbox scene. Now i guess it's time to hunt for places in BKK (or whereever) that can re-mod our machines once a new firmware patch comes out. I'll download xlink and xbconnect just in case

Not lost a game this way in 18 months I used to do this with DVD's (I was / am a major buyer with 1000's) and it cost me 100's of GBP in stolen discs, lost mail, 37% tax, etc.. I purchased blue planet box set 3 times to get one here. I just gave up in the end.. Was too expensive to remain legit and swim upstream.
LivinLOS Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?ty...s&cid=12479 Xbox Live BantacularPosted by SketchFactor at 5/17/2007 3:28 PM PDT We are continually fighting the good fight to keep modders and jerks out of the Halo 2 online population (and now Halo 3) but we can all sleep easier at night knowing that the Xbox Live team has their own group of agents working towards the betterment of the online community. Major Nelson and Gamerscoreblog posted reminders today that people who log onto Live using modified consoles are being dealt with. As more and more people pour into the Halo 3 Beta, please take this warning to heart. Using modified content and hacked boxes is against the Terms of Use for Xbox Live and doing so will result in your console being permanently banned from the service. Forever. For all games. If you get an error message "Status Code: Z: 8015 - 190D" it means you are done playing Xbox Live on that console. Congrats. To all of the upstanding members of the Live community - we salute you and look forward to fun times throughout the Halo 3 Beta and beyond.
