Pattaya City Security Officers Beat Up Street Vendor..

SOURCE: Pattaya City News: May 18th 2007

Pattaya City Security Officer arrested after allegedly assaulting a street vendor.

Pattaya City Hall Security Officers can often be seen patrolling the streets of Pattaya.

Their powers are limited but they are able to detain illegal street vendors and take them to Pattaya City Hall to pay a fine. This was one such incident which occurred on Walking Street in the early hours of Friday Morning when Security Officers stopped a motorbike which had entered the street before the permitted time of 3am.

The passenger on the bike, Khun Don aged 24 was found to be carrying a bag full of copy watches. He was told that he would have to accompany the Officers to Pattaya City Hall to pay a fine.

He refused and stated that he was only taking the watches to his Cousin and had no intention to sell the items to members of the public. Despite these claims, he was taken to City Hall where he was allegedly told to accept that he was preparing to sell the watches, he refused once again and was then allegedly attacked by three Security Officers.

The Police were called and everyone involved in the case was taken to Pattaya Police Station where Police Major Somporn took up the case. He received a confession from Khun Don that he did intend to sell the watches and the Major inspected upper body injuries which Khun Don claims he sustained during the assault.

It was decided that one of the Security Officers, Khun Chaetar aged 25, who confessed to attacking the street vendor, should be arrested on a charge of assault and he is now awaiting a court appearance.
