Covid: Former Maj. Gen. Sum Pov sentenced to three years in prison for human trafficking

Former Major General Sum Pov and 6 other members were remanded in custody by the Svay Rieng Provincial Court on the afternoon of April 24, 2021 after the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office charged him with 3 crimes of illegal human smuggling from Phnom Penh to Svay Rieng.

 

Kham Sophary, a prosecutor with the Svay Rieng Provincial Court said that now ex Major General Sum Pov and six accomplices had been charged with:

– With human trafficking and conspiracy to commit human trafficking in Svay Rieng Province and in Phnom Penh from 17 April 2021 to 22 April 2021. Offenses are punishable under the provisions of Article 13, Article 15 of the Law on the Suppression of Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation and Article 29 of the Penal Code.

– Initiate the idea of illegal use of clothing, especially for public authorities, committed in Svay Rieng and Phnom Penh on April 17, 2021 until April 22, 2021, which is a criminal offense. To be punished in accordance with the provisions of Article 28 and Article 612 of the Penal Code.

– Using fake public documents (using Hummer car with Royal Cambodian license plate 2-9170 and Camry car with license plate 2N-4801 with fake license plate) in Svay Rieng province from 17 April 2021 until April 22, 2021, where the offense is stipulated and punishable under Article 79 of the Law on Road Traffic and Article 630 of the Penal Code.

Ever notice how this kind of thing rarely seems to happen in Thailand? First Cambodia beats Thailand to a pulp with regard to vaccinations. Now, they are demonstrating more will, when it comes to prosecuting corrupt officials? Really? How low can Thailand sink, when it comes to the lack of will, in the fight against corruption?

I actually clicked through on this with great surprise thinking a Thai General had been prosecuted but then obviously very quickly realized this simply does not happen in Thailand.

As low as the stack of 1000 baht notes will allow them.

I did the same till I realised he wouldnt be a FORMER Major General in Thailand.  He would still keep his position, pension, etc and get 50% off for good behaviour, 50% off for wearing khaki trousers and a promotion to head of ethics dept!

the pm got charged and fined for no mask! wonder if he will pay?
