California has the lowest infection rate in the US. Lower than any major country, as well, excepting the quarantined countries such as Australia.

Florida’s infection rate is many times that of California.

Your opinion is the opposite of reality.

What on earth are you talking about? Infection rates in California and Florida are very similar. In deaths per 1M population they are positioned 30th and 28th respectively among US states.

Brazil and India have no national lockdown. The US never had a national lockdown. Those are the top 3 countries in terms of deaths and cases.

Have you heard of relativity? Those have the biggest populations so of course they have the biggest absolute numbers. In deaths per 1M we have at or near the top countries such as Hungary and Czechia that have been in hard lockdowns for the most part of the previous year. Brazil for example is currently 13th in deaths per 1 million.

Relatively speaking, Brazil and India are really bad. You are ignoring the reality that the epidemic has swamped their capabilities, and they can’t handle the sick or the dead.

Well you are taking one specific day, still praising a state with the highest absolute case and death count, while I was referring to the whole pandemic period. Nuff said.

California is the most populous state in the nation, of course it will have the most total cases and deaths. But, compared to Florida on a per capita basis, California is doing much better

DURING the whole pandemic period.

People still get out and about during lockdowns.  I've been through 2 so far and we were still able to go to Makro, the beach, fresh market.  People were working, had jobs, etc.  Not sure what you're on about....but it's wrong.  Sure, many are suffering.  But they'd suffer more if we didn't lock down.  Don't forget about the mental health of those who've lost loved ones.  As you may know, death of a close relative is the most stressful thing that can happen to an individual.

Mental health of loved ones ??

You mean the 170 in 16 months from Covid, or the many many thousands of deaths from other road kill and sicknesses ?

Shopping malls and markets should be closed until further notice.

Public transport such as trains should be available for key workers only.

If you can't work from home, tough.

None essential stores should cease trading till further notice.

None essential travel implicated.

1 person person per family only,to use supermarket for essential goods.

If these restrictions seem unreasonable to anyone, tell me again when the death toll is over 100,000

ok, i will wait, possibly a very long time , or never to tell you again

Perhaps you could come back and tell us again when it get over 50,000 ?,

178 deaths  ( 28/3/21) out of 66 million in 16 months. Any other year would not be worthy of a mention /

Why bother with such draconian  measures, why not just let the poor people starve in their homes ?

You seem fixated on the low numbers of deaths from Covid due to the very low numbers of infections. IF there were a breakout of the virus as in other countries, deaths would be in the many thousands, and you would be singing another song.

Since road accidents are not communicable, there is no danger to the total population, but, as in Brazil and India, enough deaths and infections, and all of society can be at risk.

If you ever watch a zombie movie, even you would be worried by the appearance of one zombie, even though one zombie is easily dealt with. The problem is later on, when there are many zombies. Then, you get the zombie apocalypse, and then the malls are closed.

Back in 2020, when there were 15 cases in the USA, Trump and his gang sang the same song: only 15 cases, it's contained, no big deal, etc.

Nice, but this is not a movie, Is it ?

Road kill not a danger to the population ? 26,000 ton 30,000 die each year in Thailand , , 2,000 a month, and Covid has killed how many. 14 a month ?

Low numbers of infections ? Everyone on here keeps harping about massive increase in infections , with no corresponding rise in deaths

IF, is such a good word isn't it , says so much, yet means so little

But we have not got the breakout like other countries have we, so no song to sing. Maybe this fat farang will sing different tune later, but until them maybe not

Just to remind you , this is about Thailand, not Brazil or India

wow, in the USA ?

but i thought this was Thailand, not the good ol US of A

328 million in USA, different climates, different people, different laws, so a bit pointless

but if your gunna start picking and choosing other countries to try and make your point look good,  I choose Tonga. No deaths last year, no deaths this year, and still  no lockdowns

You seem a little unclear on the concept of risk.

Road accidents have a very high probability of killing 20-40,000 people a year, and a low probability of killing 100,000+ people a year.

Covid-19 has a medium probability of killing 100,000+ people a year for a country with 70 million residents.

So how many died last year from high probability, and how many died from medium probability ?

Risk.?

Which is a greater risk for the majority of folks on here, dying on the road, dying one the job, dying on the toilet, or dying from Covid ?

It is not doing much better. I just said previously they are 28th and 30th in deaths per capita and even in infections the difference is not that great as I said in a previous message. Now you are contradicting yourself when you are suddenly talking on per capita basis when you just used the absolute numbers of the most populous nations on earth as an argument.

On per capita basis Czechia and Hungary are among the worst affected countries despite having hard lockdowns for a big part of the past year.
