Well that sucks. Is there a law forbidding fishing from the pier? Sounds odd, but not surprising in the least. Any other good and legal fishing spots around?

Even if you could fish from Chalong pier, there are lots of boats that pass under the pier, which will snag your line.

Most Thais fish off the rocks that are usually present at the ends of the west coast beaches.

Like everything else here there is the law and then there is implementation of the law, I think I have seen signs about not fishing, but Thais do it regularly, as a farang you are the target of the law though....!

I have done it there before years ago, right under the sign...????, but nowadays I just cast off the beach, can't be bothered with rocks either...., in any case there isn't any fish near/along the shore, they take them when they are 10cm long, nothing left, fishermen go 2 hours out in open see to fish these days....!

For your son could also try private fish ponds around Phuket, not my thing but there are a few on the map if still operating....

Have fished of both loads of times, prefer the one down from the old zoo.

There is a small fishing park in Soi Nam Jai in Rawai you could take your son to, Also I see people fishing at the lake in Nai Harn
