it seems some people can legaly enter in Thailand without quarantine

Recommended Posts

Reading this news, it seems few categories of people are exempt of quarantine

when they enter in Thailand

Honestly when you know all the hassles and the cost

the returnees, Thais and foreigners, have to go through to come back in Thailand

it's really a shame to read that sort of news:

''

The Chanthaburi provincial public office said more than 109 gemstone traders, from Guinea, Mali, Cote d’Ivoire and Gambia in Africa, have tested positive for COVID-19 between May 6th and 9th in the province, although none carried the African or Indian variants of the virus.

Medical workers from hospitals and the provincial health office also set up a testing site at a Buddhist center, targeting 250 residents who came into contact with the African traders, while the traders must comply strictly with health measures and enter quarantine for at least 14 days.''

So if i understand correctly the africans traders where tested and detected positive after being in contact with more

than 250 residents, and now they have to enter in quarantine? Why they weren't in quarantine when they enter in the country

to begin with? There is a special exemption for the gemstone traders?

You are assuming that these traders just arrived in Thailand without passing through quarantine.

You could think if they were in Thailand after passing through quarantine

then they will be ''covid free'' so not infected before being released in the ''nature''?

Few of them could have been infected in Thailand after their quarantine

but all of them. the 109 ? It doesn't make any sense, does it?

Same as anyone else working in close proximity. One could have caught it locally, and passed it along.

they are here for years.

as very religious people and hard workers at the african laundry, they became infected from singing hymns loudly and snorting substances from the same pipe, while doing their gruelling job.

very similar to their very honourable mafia friends from the thonglor clubs, who were spending each weekend at poipet casinos (without stamping their passports) and the rest of the week socialising with whores at those clubs. They didn't need to do their quarantine, because they were crossing the border so often and with so much money, that the law doesn't concern them.

they were all infected with the UK strain, which came to thailand from cambodia.

Kingofthemountain.....   king of assumptions !!!

They have to go into quarantine for 14 days (isolation) because they have tested positive for Covid-19.

That it. Anything else before this is purely your speculation and assumption.

Foreign nationals living in Thailand can still catch Covid-19.

It is not mentioned that these foreign nationals arrived in Thailand without having quarantined for 2 weeks.

Neither is it mentioned that these foreign nationals have recently arrived in Thailand.

But, neither is it mentioned that these foreign nationals live in Thailand and have been here for a while.

As always with news like this, it leaves a lot more questions than information and forces assumption.

I agree with you the article doesn't give a lot of informations

however your post, as mine, is based on presumption

so far you don't have any more valid information to bring to the debate.

My presumption wasn't out of thin air but was based on this particular part of the article:

''The Chanthaburi provincial public office said more than 109 gemstone traders, from Guinea, Mali, Cote d’Ivoire and Gambia in Africa, have tested positive for COVID-19 between May 6th and 9th in the province, although none carried the African or Indian variants of the virus.''

If you read slowly and quietly this part, you note they are an important group of traders from foreign countries, so you can presume they are not shop owners in Thailand but instead they are traveling from Africa to Thailand to sell gems, hence the mention in the article that '' none carried the African or Indian variants of the virus''

Also after few researchs on internet you can read this:

'' Although its name means City of the Moon, Chanthaburi is more popularly known as the City of Gems. And, when gem supplies ran out at home, its gem traders traveled abroad, mostly to Africa, to bring rubies and sapphires, among other gems, back to Chanthaburi for treatment and cutting. It is estimated that most of the world’s gemstones pass through the City of the Moon, at one time or another in their travels.''

So all the presumption is in favor of travelling traders

But of course if you have more informations about it, feel free to share your links so far i have found no any information about it in the Thai medias, i wonder why....

Probably on a 1,350 day overstay.

I assume these people have been here for ages, certainly pre-COVID. If they arrived since the re-opening then they most certainly went through 14 day quarantine.

To assume otherwise is presumptive.

Because they did not enter the country recently.   Other articles have mentioned most were infected locally while worshiping together during Ramadan.

Yes you are right

i just have found a recent topic here on TVF

the article is most detailed and it's indicated they are living in Thailand

with their thai families, so no international travel was involved in this case
