Dr. for Adult-Onset Type 1 Diabetes for Thai Patient in Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

Asking for a friend.  She's concerned about her Thai landlady who has adult-onset Type 1 diabetes (yes, I confirmed it's type 1 and not type 2) and having a difficult time controlling it.  The Thai landlady goes to a gov't hospital for treatment and sees a different doctor every time.  She's received minimal education or support despite giving herself insulin shots.  She's ended up in ICU several times because of recurring bad swings in her blood sugar.

There would be some money available for her to see a specialist in Chiang Mai to learn more about controlling her disease and if there are better technologies available to help her control her blood sugar.  Any recommendations about specialists and hospitals?

Also are there support groups for Thai people with Type 1 diabetes in Chiang Mai?

I think it would be worth her having a consultation or two with this very bright young specialist

She should not buy medication there, continue to get it and lab tests etc at the government hospital. The purpose of the private consultation is to enable her to have more time with the doctor and get a more thorough explanation of her condition.

IS she testing her own blood sugar at home? If not, should. Pharmacies sell the devies and wil teach her to use it.
