Vials of the Chinese made Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine / AFP

Thailand’s Public Health Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, accepted delivery of 500,000 more doses from China’s Sinovac from Yang Xin, Chargé D’affaires at the Chinese Embassy in Thailand.

Yang Xin said, during the ceremony, that he is honoured to represent the Chinese government in providing the COVID-19 vaccine to the Thai people, to support control of the spread of the virus, which indicates the strong relationship between the two countries and how the Chinese government can help others during the pandemic.

He added that China has donated vaccines to 80 countries and has exported them to 50 developing countries, to help increase their access to them.

It's a humble but useful vaccine. What I like about it is that it uses the conventional methods used for established vaccines. What I don't like it is that it has not been through western trials and is not so effective. If it can be established as being safe I would prefer it the mRNA and vector vaccines.

If you had a financial audit on a packet of crisps here you would find a hundred cheesy fingerprints before you found the offending general ????

My next door neighbor who is Chinese won’t have it that tells me something

Geez I sure do wish he would ask President Biden for some preferred vaccines

Seems they are getting Sinovac free so why bother with the others seems to be there attitude!

Yeah not hear anything anymore from those 10-20 million Pfizer, and mass Sputnik order. Only the worst vaccine available in the world they want more and more as the Co owners is 20% by Thai family from CENTRAL. Medipharm the other Chinese vaccine is much much better and high protection. But zero interested in that one. Brown envelopes not thick enough there.

Feeling guilty much?

They're not getting it for free according to any reporting that I've seen. Here's just one example from the Nation.

Government in talks to buy 5 million more doses of Sinovac vaccine

Do you have a source for it being free?

I’d rather have him cook me up something.

SinoScience the local Co should by new be making twice that every day

Was written in the "fine print" when ordering the subways (sorry, submarines).

Obligation to take them all their unwanted vaccines off their back.

China must be feeling guilty....giving the vaccine away,

after all it was them that caused all this problem.

regards worgeordie

Why bother nobody wants it,i reckon they will force it on all the prisoners and poor people,on pain of afine if they dont take it.

My only question left unanswered by this article is, did Anutin prostrate himself before the Chinese emissary to thank him properly?

Is this statement in some way a boast about haw the CCP are aiding the rest of the World.

A World they turned inside out with their Corona Virus outbreak, a World that has seen so much misery inflicted by this Virus.

Sick

There are of course different estimates, depending on the source, but it always looks like it doesn't come cheap and there is definitely room for generous backhanders:

Not sure how you define "Western" but Phase III Trials were done in Turkey and Brazil among other countries and the investigators and reviewers included western scientists.

People seem to assume that because it is of Chinese manufacture all the research was done in China/by Chinese researchers. Not at all the case.

It has been established as safe for people under 60 without major chronic health problems. There is still insufficient data on the over 60s and those with serious underlying conditions. The Phase III trials either did nto include enough people in those groups or failed to disaggregate the data. This does not mean it is unsafe for those groups, just that the data is lacking.

With 32 countries now using it, mire data on real woirl effectiveness is coming in all the time.

Very limited amount of Astra Zeneca available now, 61 million doses are on order of which 6 million of them due at   beginning of June. It has always been planned for AZ to be the mainstay of the program, but Thailand opted to produce it locally which takes considerable time. When the outbreak started surging, and China stepped forward with offer to supply Sinovac fast, and it is what is being used in Phase I (health workers and hot spots). Phase II will use mainly AZ. Phase III will likely be mix, depending ion how fast the AZ production is.

Pfizer is not yet approved for use in Thailand and not on order (approval in any case has to come first).

Sputnik procurement is supposedly in the works but timetable unclear https://www.thaipbsworld.com/tag/sputnik-v/

Moderna has only this past week been approved and while procurement is planned orders do nto yet seem to have been placed.

"He added that China has donated vaccines to 80 countries and has exported them to 50 developing countries, to help increase their access to them."

Yes he is right. It is important for the CCP to increase their "access" to the developing countries by whatever means of leverage they can devise.

They will collect the gratitude later.....
