Setback for Pattaya’s vaccination rollout after 20,000 doses fail to arrive

Pattaya's vaccine rollout is in a shambles.

Sophon Cable TV reported that 20,000 doses were due to go into the arms of frontline personnel in the tourism industry yesterday and today.

But absolutely no vaccine arrived as promised. It was all diverted to other places deemed more needy where the Covid outbreaks are critical.

And there was no sign when it would come.

Sophon said that all the authorities in Pattaya had been bigging up the vaccination at four centers in the resort for Bang Lamung residents - Bangkok Pattaya and Muang hospitals, a location in Pong district and the Eastern Seaboard sports stadium.

People who came for vaccination at the stadium were greeted with a laminated sign in Thai. It said:

"Vaccine arrival is not sure due to the crises elsewhere. Your day will be announced later".

The media quoted two people who turned up expecting to be vaccinated - a chicken trader called Chaiwat, 65 and a lady called Runnapha, 52.

They were both ready, willing and able to get their jabs, hadn't heard about the delay and were disappointed.

They didn't mind what brand of vaccination they just wanted to get it over and done with.

Runnapha said she wanted to be an example to others. Chaiwat said he hadn't registered but expected to get his jab all the same.

Posters on the story spoke with almost one voice, notes Thaivisa. Basically a jaded one speaking of endless government flip-flops and excuses.

Though there are positive signs on the horizon it remains the horizon. Thailand's vaccine rollout has been criticized in many quarters up to this point.

Yes, and like the horizon it remains in the distance however far forward you move.

Truth be told, there were never any vaccines available in the first place, it was all the usual BS just to keep the peasants quiet.

Nothing anybody in authority here says is anywhere near the truth, lies, lies, and more lies.

This is the type of thing I have been worried about. Vaccines originally allocated by perceived need and “fairness” subsequently overtaken by a “he who shouts loudest” process of reallocation.

I’d be surprised if there isn’t a lot more of this kind of thing in the next couple of weeks and then June will go crazy because every province will be expecting supplies of AZ vaccine at once.

Not such a big deal if you think about it.

20,000 Doses is only enough form 10,000 people in a City with a Population of 600,000

As the saying goes " P!$$ poor Planning will make for P!$$ poor performance ", and the whole episode is rather sad IMO.

I think it is obvious were these vaccine have gone

The real problem (apart from people not wanting the Sinovac) is there simply are not enough vaccines or take up - I would assume those in prisons will not have a choice, the prisons will end up the most vaccinated population in Thailand - pity there was no beach in there - tourists would be flooding to the safest most risk free spot in Thailand - Bangkok Hilton lol

When the ''news'' of this vaccination was anounced on another topic

on this forum, most of the wise members, doubtful about the outcome were treated

of ''Thai bashers'' ''negatives people'' and other bad names

now everyone can see that once again their predictions were rights

Hua Hin are expecting to start a similar programme to Pattaya, no doubt other tourist destinations will be similarly minded. Prisons, migrant work camps and Covid hotspots in Bangkok are all being jabbed first. We will all have to be patient.

Older Brits may  remember the storybook character Billy Bunter, waiting in vain for his postal order to arrive.

Phuket Chiang Mai and Hua Hin are way ahead of Pattaya in having a vaccination plan. I know the elections are finished but has City Hall entirely succumbed to Wuflu? Apart from the stadium as a vaccination centre what else has CH arranged. How about registration centres and more vaccination centres?

It is absolutely tragic that Frontline workers especially medical personnel are not getting these vaccines.

It's just more smoke and mirrors. Today, tomorrow, two weeks from thursday, next month...

After having made another down-payment towards the submarines, finally 200 doses of vaccine left Ch... and will be delivered by Grab in the next couple of weeks.

LOL, they can't even get 20k , how on earth do they want to vaccine 300,000 a day?

yes, every farang arriving in Phuket will have to search for a vaccine, hidden in the "Sandbox".

Like searching for Easter eggs.

This is what happens when the PM hasn't done his job.
