Daily News reported that Thailand's consumer protection police had arrested a Chinese man called Jerng at a house in Bang Khae, western Bangkok, for dealing in fake torch batteries.

After a search warrant was served he was found to be in possession of 82,464 batteries worth 2.7 million baht that he had imported from Shenzhen, China.

Pol Col Pattanapong Sriphinphroh said that many members of the public had contacted Panasonic Corporation to say their torch batteries sold online were no good.

A sting was set up to order products and this led to the suspect who admitted getting the batteries from China.

The police said that in order to differentiate the real thing from fakes you need to look at the label which will be in Thai outlining the date of production and the delivery company.

Colors will be sharp for the real thing.

The fakes tend to expand with use and can leak causing skin problems or problems from inhaling noxious substances.

Yep it's rife on Lazda. Especially the really bad quality Eneloop rechargable copies. Took me a long time to figure it out. Only ever buy from the Lazada Panasonic store.

It's not as though stealing intellectual property will ever stop. It's not as though the Chinese government will ever really give a damn about air pollution or climate change.

Unfortunately Western countries can't just cut the trade  as China makes almost everything and Western countries almost nothing  it will take time to repatriate industry back to the west  but I very much hope  it will happen at least in part   so we don't have to rely on China so much for "everything"

Of course, it would almost impossible to distinguish them from original .

Yes, I understand the issue is extremely complicated to unwind but it nevertheless needs to be done.

It's so ironic that for all the whining that Biden did during the election that his Chinese foreign policy mirrors that of Trump.

How did they know?

Can I have a lick, please.

Unlikely to be battery....

Well I bought a pack, and they are just fine. Perhaps that's the problem? They are better than the originals. Lots of copies like that.

Anyway! The proof of the pudding; so to speak.

Can't trust those batteries! Stick with the forgeries; can't go far wrong.

Are they fake or simply from a Panasonic factory in China?

No! They are not worth 2.7 million baht.

2.7 million baht might be the retail value of the original Panasonic batteries.

Those fake batteries might be worth 10% of that or less.
