Does My Wife Need To Take The Life In The Uk Test?

Featured Replies

Hi,

My wife will be applying for ILR in November, she will have been in the UK with me for 2 years on a settlement visa. I know about applying for the ILR 28 days before and the fee of 750 pound, Im just confused about the life in the UK test.

She currently goes to School/college where she is 4 weeks into a 10 week course entitled "ESOL with citizenship test preparation". Does she need to sit the life in the UK test if she has completed the aformentioned course?

Im hearing conflicting reports about this, so any help in this matter will be truly appreciated.

Cheers,

Scott

Scott,

If your wife sits an ESOL with Citizenship course, she does not need to then sit the Life in the UK test. However, from your description of the course your wife is taking, I don't like the use of the word "preparation". This makes it sound as if this course is only an introduction to the real McCoy. You might like to clarify with the college whether the course leads to anything else or whether that's it.

Scouse.

Scouse,

I too was worried by the word "preparation", but this was the only ESOL course with citizenship on offer from Sheffield college.

I have just been looking through some of her coursework and the pages are usually headed with "citizenship materials for ESOL learners". I am hoping she is doing the right course, and that sheffield college have just worded the name of the course badly.

I will get her to ask one of the tutors to be sure.

Cheers for the help.

Scott.

Scott,

Perhaps drop a line to member Vulture whose missus undertook her ESOL with Citizenship class at Sheffield College only a few months ago. I know they are in Thailand at the moment, but will be back shortly.

Scouse.
