"A source is advising that the Thai government later today will announce the government's COVID vaccination program for foreign nationals will commence on June 7, including the details of participating hospitals."

I went to Bankok Siriroj hospital (ex Phuket International) in Phuket early this morning for Covid test for travelling. They encouraged me to invite my foreign friends in Phuket to register for vaccination. Do it now they said. Two friends, along with passports (no Thai ID numbers) have been and managed to register. It took a couple of minutes. The information desk explained that more info would follow before 31st May.

Strangely, a third friend received an email from a second Bangkok hospital (there are two) in Phuket this morning stating that their system had not started yet.

This is what really matters, not thousands of asymptomatic cases which distort the stats.

Don't confuse "asymptomatic" with "pre-symptomatic" . Many of those who test positive without symptoms will soon experience symptoms - some which will wind up in ICU's. Even the lucky ones who remain truly asymptomatic will still infect others.

From the government's English language CCSA spokesman:

Expect more details of just how this is going to operate for foreigners at today's English language televised COVID news briefing around 1 p.m.

Misunderstanding?

Some of our teachers went to have their vaccine today. Like me, they registered on 13 May. However, unlike me they received an SMS yesterday for their appointment. The 26 foreigners, including myself, who registered on 13 May had their names removed from the queue.

The policy of “Thais first” is nothing to do with the schools. They want all of their staff to be vaccinated including the janitors. According to the LINE message we received, it’s our local health office who want to vaccinate the Thai teachers first. Foreigners will be later.

Thailand’s vaccine plan by the numbers

They have procured six million doses of the SinoVac vaccine and 117,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine so far.

1.65 million people have so far received one vaccine shot and 892,245 have received two doses. Thailand has a population of 69 million people.

Siam Bioscience, the local producer of AstraZeneca vaccines, aims to produce six million doses by June. However, Thai Enquirer, understands that there has been a problem scaling production and the target will not be met.

Explain how it distorts the stats. Asymptomatics can infect others and some of those will become symptomatic and possibly die. Asymptomatic people also suffer other medical conditions unbeknownst to them until later on.

Very true, the Flu and Pneumonia can also be passed on by an asymptotic carrier and around 44,549 people died in Thailand from either the Flu or Pneumonia in 2018.

A lot of people also die on the roads and also end up with injuries after the accidents, I remember when Covid wasn't around, about 20,000 people per year would die on the roads, and many many more injured, I suppose we could call them asymptomatic drivers ?

It is what it is, staying fixated on this is rather depressing, fearing the invisible, just adhere to the rules as you would in a car, put your seat belt on, don't speed, make sure your car is roadworthy and have insurance in case of an accident, no guarantees that you will make it to your destination, but if you have good insurance, you just might survive, i.e. if there are any hospital beds, come to think of it, never did hear them running out of hospital beds for accident victims or Flu and Pneumonia victims, did anyone else ?

Taking a deep breath in, now exhaling....ahhhh....just saying ????

EDIT: Link https://www.worldlifeexpectancy.com/thailand-influenza-pneumonia#:~:text=According to the latest WHO,or 9.11% of total deaths.

Planning and doing are two completely different items.  So far the planning by the Thai government has fallen down a steep cliff and is having problems climbing out of the hole they have created.

Replying to

@SaksithCNA

Furthermore,

@oc_ccsa

has decided that schools in the 4 “dark red zones” (incl BK) will remain closed and on remote learning. As for “red” and “orange zones”, limited capacity is possible but subject to decision by local authorities to asses #COVID19 risk.

all other countries count asymptomatic as well, is there a reason that half of the people in Thaivisa dont think Thailand should do it (maybe like the government they think the numbers would look better),

a positive result is a positive result.

Pretty sure china doesn't count them until they have symptoms. If you look at their MOPH statement each day it lists those with covid and then those asymptomatic. The numbers listed as with covid end up on Worldometer, the asymptomatic don't. Feel free to correct me if I am mistaken.

This is the portion of the above COVID vaccinations announcement specifically relating to the expat community in Thailand.

For Bangkok, people are being referred to the two Bangkok locations listed in the prior post. For people in outlying provinces, they are being referred to their local government hospitals.

Government spokesman Natapanu Nopakun said the June 7 opening of vaccination registrations for foreign nationals will coincide with the same date opening of general vaccination registrations for Thai citizens. "We practice what we preach," he said, alluding to the government's prior statements pledging to include foreign nationals in the government's vaccination program.
