BANGKOK (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has sealed off a camp for Italian-Thai Development construction workers in Laksi district, after more than 1,000 tested positive for COVID-19, with 36 of 80 samples analyzed showing the highly contagious variant first found in India.

The strain has spread rapidly in India and been designated as a variant of concern by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Bangkok communicable disease control committee enforced community isolation at the facility for 28 days, in a bid to contain the outbreak, due to the infections of 1,107 out of 1,667 workers, or about 66% of the camp.

The infected workers will receive food supplies and medical treatment, while those who are symptomatic will be sent to hospitals. Health workers and investigators have been deployed to track down anyone who came into contact with the infected. Vaccines will also be administered to people in nearby communities from Tuesday.

These camps have jail - like conditions when it comes to sqm per person; they close the door after the horses have boltet, again. It was just a matter of time and more bombs ticking under these conditions. BTW, has the company's owner ever been sentenced for his crime in the National Park ?

It is time now for the Authorities to recognize the fact that this latest Outbreak of Covid has gotten away from them.

Shutting down this Workers Camp, a Factory, or 2 Etc, is just not enough any more.

Covid seems to have gotten into every corner of Society now, and the only solutions are harsh City wide Lock Downs, and severe travel restrictions to prevent the spread gaining any more momentum.

Covid is in the Workers Camps, Prisons , Factories, Markets, and probably in your Soi right now.

absolutely right mate - well said

They dropped the ball 5 weeks ago allowing mass travel and now they are in a massive mess, not just Thailand either - right across SEA

They thought they were invincible - last year was just pure luck and now they are way behind the cure on vaccines because they wanted lucrative deals to enrich their greedy pockets - now this, pure idiocy driven by corruption and greed and lack of cells upstairs

It's now called Stalag 13

Those that are not infected, where are they? Samut Sakhon all over again.

66% infected 34% about to be...

another question, is how did the "Indian strain" find itself inside the camp..

or is the virus mutating on it's own?
