I know most consider it 2 weeks after the 2nd dose but any word on what Thailand considers it? Specifically for purposes of travel to Phuket after July 1?  I would save a lot of money if I didn't need to wait pay for a hotel in the US for an extra 2 weeks before heading there.

yes, it is 2 weeks after the 2nd.

but phuket sandbox is still questionable, only half population vaccinated, only 60% registered for it.

I'm thinking July 26th arrival in Phuket. If they do still require quarantine, how does that work? If I already have an airbnb scheduled at that time, I'd have to stay somewhere else in quarantine?

Don't do any reservations that can not be cancelled for free!

Details are still vague but seemingly you are not free to pick some AirBnB but have to stick to some "plus" hotels which are part of the plan.

The Phuket sandbox is a PLAN! It has not even been approved by the almighty "CCSA" control board. It has then to be published in the "Royal Gazette".

Tons of details missing like: embassy involved, certificate of entry (CoE) required? Covid insurance (100'000 USD coverage)?

No quarantine of course.

Only stuck to the island for seven days.

2 weeks after final/2nd dose, yes that is what I read.

the last time I read that travellers had to stay in designated hotels. In a range of 2-3k bht per night.

They would be under form of supervision by trained (and fully vaccinated) personel. One if the reason being not allowed to leave phuket and travel to continent or to the rest of province.

I don't think they would allow you into airbandb.

It's a pilot scheme. They need to keep it tight for a while, before opening more provinces in October.

but, generally, it looks like a money grab for the local tourist mafia, they are influential in thailand through connection to politicians on local and national level

Got it...I'm thinking about just planning for a normal 14 day quarantine stay in BKK. Or should I just wait, i wont be needing to arrive until like July 26th.

Wait at least until it has actually started. First ribbon cut/gift basket handed over, CNN reporters on air.

I wouldn't expect that flights/rooms are booked.

Even after this I would recommend to only book a refundable hotel, and a refundable flight.

If the plan should go ahead as planned, but suddenly in mid of July there is a Covid cluster somewhere which is traced back to Phuket, it wouldn't surprise me if they cancel any international flights into Phuket from one day to the next.

Yikes maybe Thailand is just not worth it right now, might better places to enjoy being fully vaccinated .
