Prison Covid rate nears 1 in 10

A further 534 coronavirus cases were found at three prisons in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infected inmates in the third wave to more than 30,000 people, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said on Tuesday. The prison population of Thailand is a little more than 310,000.

The country reported 2,662 cases in the past 24 hours. Apart from the cases in prisons, 1,495 were found at medical facilities 617 via pro-active tests at known clusters and 16 imported cases, said Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, the CCSA’s spokesman.

Of the 534 prison cases, 415 were found at Bang Kwang Central Prison alone followed by 115 cases Chachoengsao Provincial Central Prison and four cases at Klong Prem Central Prison.

And the Authorities still want people to believe that there is no Covid present in 120 of the 143 Prisons Nation wide.

My condo pool has reopened as of yesterday.  Parks and gyms still closed, go figure, but I do understand the need for Malls to stay open during this heat we are having in Bangkok.  People living in those 25 SqM boxes need to have free aircon instead of paying to run theirs and then they can have free WiFi in some places.......God forbid they shut the malls....

You do know what happens under bubble and seal right? Even 6 months ago they were under reporting.

Testing a sealed area isn't going to give you much actionable data. I doubt the under reporting today is significantly different from six months ago.

Considering the only sealed area was in Samut Sakhon 6 months ago and now we have multiple bubble and seals throughout Bangkok your statement does not exactly fit in with the current situation .

Added to that the new policy of advising people to stay at home even if they think they have the virus so long as they're not showing symptoms. Sending high risk people home as happened yesterday at the mamma noodle factory to isolate at home.

Further evidence of lack of testing now would be the hospital walk ins. 6 months ago they were always outnumbered by the pro active testing going on bar a few days here and there, the opposite is true now in this 3rd wave.

I think your a little lost.  They seal all of the employees in regardless if they are infected or not, thousands of them.  Try again with no actionable data.

Unfortunately, they will just find more everyday. People are not going to the hospital even though they may have only minor symptoms.  By going to a hospital these, many times, migrant workers, can not afford to take care of their families if they are locked in a hospital or a quarantine facility.  People have to understand that for many a livelihood is the most important thing to these people and there is no government handout for them as they do not qualify.

Thai Cabinet does not give final approval to Phuket Sandbox yet, asks for relevant agencies to make some improvements

The Thai Cabinet met this afternoon and among other issues, like the hiring of special government employees and financial aid measures for small businesses affected by Covid-19, the Cabinet briefly discussed the Phuket Sandbox program.

The Phuket Sandbox is a program that is proposed to allow vaccinated foreign tourists to enter without quarantine from July first and had already been approved in principle by the Center for Economic Situation Administration, or CESA.

According to Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan O’Cha, who posted on his social media accounts around 7:00 P.M., the Thai Cabinet will inform relevant agencies, like the Tourism Ministry and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to make “improvements” that guarantee a good balance of economic recovery and safety. The program is not canceled or officially postponed at this point, only that the Cabinet will return to the matter in the very near future and is not officially “rubber-stamped” yet to go to the Royal Gazette.

Will it or will it not be implemented with too many restrictions which will make it nothing more than a Litter Box scheme.  For people to come in July, many would have had to already request the time off from work, make the plans, jump through the hoops, and are now sitting and waiting for the other show to drop.  Like always they wait until the day before a plan is to start to approve it or even cancel it.....

Agree with your comments. I do know a small handful of people who plan to travel from UAE and stay for a month. They are fortunate enough to be able to work remotely, or have retired and just wanted to get away. If additional hoops or tough restrictions are introduced, then Phuket will lose that handfull as there are now 19 countries where vaccinated UAE residents can travel to without having to quarantine (Spain, France,  Greece, Cyprus etc).

Let's see if they manage to shoot that foot again.....
