some of the girls have a 500 baht "Covid Hazard" fee tacked on to the usual thing.

other than that, smiles all around.

No...and the same after the other Coup d'état's I have been through. The reason people aren't smiling as much is because most of them are up to the eyes in debt, like the rest of the World.

Real or perceived ? I would suggest its perceived and NOT real. Its the way media hypes it or sensatiomalises it. (imho)

I came in 2006. The only difference I've noticed is Thais are BROKE, but they're still as friendly as ever.

I have experienced Thai people avoiding me in the shops the last few months . But maybe the same people treat Thai people the same . Take a shower before i go shopping next time .

I live in a small village, surrounded by the wifes extended family.

When I first came to LOS 17 years ago I noticed - as in all the countries around the world - that some people are hostile due to your race. You got where you are by some lucky coincidence, voodoo, magic spells - whatever.

After leaving the tourist-packed locations and getting deeper into the country this evaporated.

A smile, support for local businesses, making an appearance at the temple during main festivals - all are looked on with favor.

I am accepted by my wifes close family, gift horse and all that, and do not have much to do with the rest.

Suits me.

...walking on the sidewalks in pattaya. there are two clear groups, who believe they can just make everyone else get out of their way, despite there being ample room for everyone to walk past each other without any issues. young chinese men walking with a woman. they walk down the middle of the sidewalks and expect everyone else to get out of their way. i lived in huai kwang for longer than i wished to and it was the same, as nine in ten of people walking down the street were native chinese wor

Thing is...I don't consider it a beatdown. Not harming him at all. He's hurting himself. My suggestion is simply that he opens his mind to the possibility that his behaviour can have a negative effect on his relationships. That goes for us all. Once you are able to do that, you can have a conversation. What happens when a potential partner challenges his version of events? Does she become a moron? A covert narcissist? One who assumes? It doesn't take a great leap to see the possibility of such behaviour leaking into his close personal relationships. Can he state categorically that he has not ever behaved that way with family and close partners? These are questions he needs to pose for himself. There is no beatdown occurring. No looking down the nose at anyone. Just food for thought.

Had a vivid conversation last night with a group of about 10 expat friends at a relaxing restaurant down in Silom that ended up going all over the place. The group was mostly men, but a few women as well. Basically all people who live and work here and have some sort of busy lifestyle, as opposed to many foreigners living here who no longer work and end up staying home with their own comforts in some form of isolation. Not overnight, and not in some dramatic way, but gradually over time. Back home, things felt more fixed. People settled into a certain pattern — similar age, similar background, similar expectations.
