webfact
REUTERS file photo for reference only Thai media reported from Koh Tao in Surat Thani in the south of Thailand where 180 local tourism reps, officials and members of the public met at a temple to discuss returning to allowing foreign tourists. It was decided that the two islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Tao would form their own "sandbox" known hereafter as the "Phangan - Tao Sandbox". It would begin on August 8th, seven days after Koh Samui begin theirs on August 1st. Samui in turn is basing their reopening strategy on what happens in Phuket in two weeks' time. This involves sealed routes and receiving only foreigners who have been vaccinated twice and who must take two tests while they are on the islands. Ramleuk Aswachin of the Koh Tao tourist business association said that foreigners would once again be able to enjoy yoga, spas and fitness activities - Phangan's signature attractions - then travel to Koh Tao to enjoy their famed undersea beauty that simply "shouldn't be missed". -- © Copyright Thai Visa News 2021-06-16 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates
Popular Post Pedrogaz
Weird isn't it. Koh Tao is perhaps the last place in Thailand that needs a sandbox, except perhaps to hide or bury the dead..... The billionaire Indians seem to have dropped out of sight.

Phuketshrew
Yes, hurry up and open in August. Phuket will be overflowing with tourists by then so the surplus can be shipped to Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.

Koh Tao used to be the cheap dive certification factory of the world, with very bad effects on the local marine life. The current break due to the pandemic is good for nature but has not been long enough yet to allow broken corals to grow back. So, Koh Tao SHOULD actually be missed for diving. The prime dive site in the Southern Gulf of Thailand is Sail Rock anyway which is closest to Koh Phangan, with longer day trips from Koh Samui as well. Of course, this dive site has also suffered over the years but at least it didn't get the hoards of Koh Tao dive students. Divers best stay on Koh Phangan and get personal service from local dive shops.
