Row after row of closed bars on the normally bustling red light area of Soi Six.

A spokesperson for the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, or CCSA, spoke this afternoon about a request from entertainment industry business owners and staff, as well as musicians, on reopening their industry or providing them financial aid.

Dr. Apisamai Srirangsan, the assistant spokesperson for the CCSA, spoke about the request this afternoon. This also followed a separate request from Pattaya-specific beer bar and entertainment owners which we also covered. You can read about that request by clicking here.

Entertainment and nightlife venues, which include all bars, nightclubs, gogos, pubs, karaoke venues, sports bars, and similar establishments are closed under national orders currently in every province in Thailand, regardless of the number of Covid-19 cases. They have been closed for about two-and-a-half months as of today with little to no financial aid and no sign of the closure ending any time soon. As a whole, the industry has been closed almost eight months out of the past sixteen now in Thailand.

I thought the current outbreak started in some of these joints. Totally preposterous to consider letting them reopen as  they rely on "social non distancing" to function and generate income. Would be totally hypocritical, as everyone knows that they would infringe all Covid rules from the word Go. And them asking now for guidelines they would never follow is just driven by desperation, as they are aware that only the vaccines can relieve their predicament and this, at the current rate of progress, probably not before mid next year.

open air is relatively risk free IMO

but the real problem is the complete cluster theThai goverment has made of vaccine procurement and deployment, add to that their choice of vaccine from China (sinovac) which is now surrounded by serious doubts over its efficacy against current and future variants which could render its recent deployment null and void in a very short time

Why did the choose sinovac - I suspect it is because Chinese suppliers are quite flexible when it comes to budgets and accountability

And I thought the govt started the current wave by encouraging people to drive during Songkran and spend money. Current clusters are found in factories, not bars.

It would appear that the current outbreak was not caused by such places but was caused by so called hiso establishments in Bangkok importing foreign girls for rich peoples entertainment.

Because the bars aren't open.

Open the bars and the virus will follow.

I'd like to think that by the time they decided on a committee to discus the proposal, then one later to review the results of the committee and then another later committee to implement the decisions of the reviewing results committee, the pandemic in Thailand might be over. But on the current vaccine program rollout it's more likely they'll have to go through the process again due to another more desperate proposal from the entertainment industry.

Because the grubby little bars were closed.

So is that a reason to open them ?

I doubt they'll open soon, but nevertheless hope that they do.

I haven't been a regular clubber in a couple of years, but was in TopOne a couple of weeks before the current closure restrictions and had a fantastic time. Will be back to show support as soon as they reopen. ????

Same. I do not go often. Just want the opportunity

Why not open everything? Just like everything in life you can decide whether to go or not go, your choice.

The Government is in a catch 22 situation hated by many either way they move.

Crazy sure that’s open all the bars with this new variance which from what I’m reading is very easy to spread the lack of the government making a clear policy and foreigners receiving the vaccine Bazaar world TIT

As they consider opening bars keep in mind that THAI citizens who are fully vaccinated ans test NEGATIVE must quarantine over 14 days when they come to this country!

Amazing Stupidity

In the 120 days or whatever it is now the borders will be opened... Prayuts promise to the nation.

You will all get what you asked for...

Open your doors, business as usual.. except no international tourists of any significance...

and no financial aid either... sink or swim

you got what you asked for.

These entertainment businesses destroyed themselves.. they ignored all the protocols and got shut-down.

Based on what... your experience, your qualifications, past experimentation.

Even footballers are passing it between themselves while playing in the open air.

Most nightclubs are enclosed though, and airconditioned... non starter.

what I have read over the last months, confined spaces are bad open air is good

How will CCSA respond?

1. Tell them to wait until October

2. Agree to provide subsidies.

3. Tell them to pound sand.

4. agree to study ways to open bars with limits on capacity.

5. ?
