July 7, 20214 yr I'm getting frustrated with the continuing delays and ambiguity regarding availability of vaccines for non-Thais. I signed-up and paid for Moderna (Sukhumvit Hosp) but it could be well into 2022 before it actually becomes available. At 78 years old with a prior triple by-pass, I feel vulnerable. Although I hate the idea of 30+ hours enclosed in an aircraft, the attraction of being able to, on arrival, immedicably get vaccinated with my choice of vaccine is looking better and better. What are the up to date requirements to fly from BKK to a US destination, both for departure and arrival at my final destination. Are their any transit requirements along the way? I would probably fly Qatar via Doha or JAL via NRT. Once fully vaccinated, I will probably take advantage of a "Sandbox" if still functioning upon my return to Thailand.
July 7, 20214 yr If you are an American Citizen then there is only one real requirement(besides a valid passport). A Covid 19 PCR or Anti-gen test 72 hours before your flight(I am getting a PCR test to prevent any problems at Check-in at BKK). I am also going back to the USA to be vaccinated as well(BKK-NRT-LAX). I have a short layover at NRT. This year I have transited at both SIN and ICN and both airports did not have any requirements for transit passengers.
July 9, 20214 yr Going is easy. PCR Test, whoosh. Getting vaccinated is even easier. Returning? A bit more complicated. You'll need to wait at least 14 days after your last dose in order to get into a sandbox. Or leave right after the shot and spend 14 days in ASQ in Bangkok. You'll also need COVID insurance for the remainder of your permission to stay date, in addition to all the other paperwork. Qatar only flies 4x weekly, from 3x, DOH-BOS. Otherwise you'll have to go via JFK and AA or B6 up to BOS. IMO, one-stop service is worth changing departure/return dates by a day or two.
