BANGKOK (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s (BMA) Environment Department has issued guidelines for the proper disposal of antigen COVID-19 test kits, as the test kits are now approved for home use.

BMA deputy permanent secretary Chatree Wattanakajorn said the guidelines will be similar to disposal of face masks. The test kits will be collected by infectious-waste trucks and will be destroyed in the infectious solid-waste incinerators in Bangkok’s On Nut and Nong Khaem districts.

He said the BMA will coordinate with district offices to collect and dispose of infectious waste properly, while urging citizens to dispose of infectious waste separately, to prevent the spread of the disease and ensure safety of citizens and garbage collectors.

Mr Chatree added that used antigen self-test kits can be disposed of with used face masks and should be sanitized with alcohol spray or disinfectant solution, strictly separated from general waste and properly sealed in a garbage bag labeled ’face mask waste’ or ’infectious waste’.

I think this is going to work about as well as their so-called recycling program, or their separate bins to separate wet trash from dry trash.

Yes, the used test kits are highly infectious, especially if the test result is "negative". Reason: They are "covid" tests. So it's great to know that the guidelines will have a similar impact as the guidelines for the disposal of face masks.

And then what...? Left by the side of the road for the chickens and dogs to get at? There are no bin collections where I live. Sometimes a couple!e of people pitch up to buy recyclable materials like cardboard, glass, metal, etc, but for general waste, burning is the answer. What to do with hazardous materials?

Good Plan. That is a relief....otherwise we would just have to toss them in the khlong with the used masks.....
