When an elected government needs laws to protect itself from words, you've lost.

When you have to use laws as a hammer to pound down criticism, you've lost.

When you feel that the words of an 18-YO woman somehow threaten your power, you've lost.

The regime looks more petty, ineffective and incompetent each day.

Soon it will be tank-time.

You think his own will move against him after he reserved so many seats in Senate for military into perpetuity?

Even though all senators are appointed by the "elected" government.

The trend of celebrities calling out the government on various issues on their social media, which have huge followings, known as “Celeb Callouts”, has been intensified by a lawsuit filed by Mr. Prayut’s lawyer against a rapper “Milli” over her online posts targeting the government and the prime minister. The Thai hashtag #SaveMilli has been used in over a million tweets.

The truth must not be made public... big brother in action.

The plucky Ms Milli should thank the govt and plod. They just added millions to her social media following (me included) and boosted her career.

I hope the relatively small fine does not deter anybody... personally i think it should be 1 baht in these cases. Costs awarded to the plaintiff .

one of the first things I learned when I began working in thailand was that the problem isnt the problem.

The problem is the person who is pointing out the problem.

And an even more egregious problem was assigning blame for the problem.

In the current times, any form of criticism must be met with the full force of the Regime's powers, it's laws, and emergency powers.

If they don't put down criticism in the early days it will blossom into, well something they don't want, a better, more equal society.

In addition to these artists and celebrities, the regime also indicted some thirteen protesters for Lese Majeste and Sedition yesterday for their part in the German Embassy event. (The rival minion event organizers were fined 200 baht for unauthorized use of a loudspeaker).

13 protesters from October rally at German embassy indicted for lèse majesté, sedition

Thirteen anti-establishment protesters were formally indicted by public prosecutors this morning (Thursday) on lèse majesté and sedition charges, in accordance with Sections 112 and 116 of the Thai Criminal Code, for their roles in the protest in front of the German Embassy in Bangkok on October 26th last year.

On October 26th, 2020, the protesters submitted a petition to the German Embassy, demanding that the German government investigate whether HM the King of Thailand had exercised his powers on German soil. The petition letter was accepted by embassy officials.

Now that this is ASEAN forum, should we expect that this also applies when talking about other nations in ASEAN? It sure limits free speech and truth around ASEAN, but what can we do but comply.

"I will miss XXXXXX a lot, but the situation has deteriorated too fast so I have to go."

I saw that in the news today, but it could apply to China, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Myanmar and now Thailand.

Although some guy issued a directive saying he didnt want anyone prosecuted under the lese majeste laws.......the megalomaniacs still decide to ignore that and use this ruling to control the people.

Looks like the freedom of speech in a democratic style of government has gone up in smoke.  No one can be critical of anyone anymore herein or they face either LM or defamation charges by this government in abid to silence its critics.  In other countries the truth eventually finds it way into the main part of society and is mostly just ignored by those in power until the next election when they are swept out on their rears and replaced.  Unfortunately that can not occur here based upon the rewrites of the constitution and the fact this former Junta led government have given themselves immunity from prosecution, and of course installed more of their own in the senate that thus has an overwhelming majority to squash whatever dissent in parliament is brought up.  Truthfully, this is bordering on becoming a totalitarian society much like a few country surround Thailand.  If I am wrong in my view I apologize to those who believe it to be different.

Unless she releases a rap version of prayut's 12 core values, she will be indicted/charged, guaranteed.

The problem is that soldiers are used to their orders being carried out without contradiction. That might make sense in a war situation. However, in all other social situations where people try to find the best solution for everyone through critical discussion, the military concept fails. Add nepotism, corruption, lack of transparency, shadow economy and appointed people without expertise, then the decline of a country is finally inevitable.

What a nasty little man, hiding behind his committee.

Using taxpayers money to sue taxpayers, surely illegal.

If you want to serve the public then public criticism goes with the territory.

If you want to be a private citizen, which the majority of the population prefer then you can behave like one and use neanderthal laws to sue.

Nothing lasts forever, especially for usurpers.

Yup, it's quite the steal. I could easily afford 1 defamation per day and still have enough to live. And with a crowdfunding campaign to financially back me up... oh my!

The New Rap Against Dictatorship song is the explosive. No 2000 baht fines for these people.

So sad.   How can someone not see this is just fanning the flames of dissent and protests.   What about the lies of stating 1 shot is vaccinated in Phuket.  And if new cases hit 13, which has been exceeded, the sandbox would close.
