BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand’s Department of Disease Control (DDC) has announced that more than 57,000 medical professionals, who had previously received two jabs of the Sinovac vaccine, were given a dose of Pfizer vaccine to boost their immunity between 4 - 7 August.

DDC deputy director-general Dr. Sophon Iamsirsithavorn said the Ministry of Public Health has earmarked 700,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine, from the 1.5 million doses donated by the United States. 446,000 doses have already been distributed to hospitals and field hospitals located in ’dark red’ provinces, while the rest will be distributed soon.

He added that the reason the DDC does not distribute all the doses at once is because the vaccine must be used within 31 days of being removed from its container, while some hospitals still have other vaccines in stock, which must be finished first.

The DDC reports no severe side-effects among over 57,000 recipients of the Pfizer vaccine, other than muscle aches and low fever, although the United States’ CDC has recorded that the vaccine has caused myocarditis and pericarditis among some recipients, which are treatable by cardiologists. The vaccine’s severe side-effects are often found among those under 30 years old and should show up within five days of vaccination.

those 700k allocated to medics should be given immediately, before it will be pinched by generals.

That's not an issue, that others vax are already at hospitals - for medics it's suppose to be only pfizer, nothing else.

Lame excuses for corruption

Why? a Pfizer booster jab to all front line medical staff should be an absolute priority against the Delta strain, guess the envelope filling conditions for Sinovac procurement didnt allow for returns.

How long has this delivery of Pfizer been in Thailand?

Only 57,000 given so far?

I can't.... they need all the protection they can get.

I can avoid Covid... they come into contact with it every day.

Give them the best there is I say.

Haven't more orders been made recently? Surprising but I believe I read of it here. ,

When the first two shots are pretty much useless against Delta a booster of Pfizer was a logical thing to do.

Frontline medical staff treating suspected or confirmed covid patients are more likely to be infected so nobody should have a problem with this.

Wasn't it supposed to be 800,000 doses to frontline workers?  Not 700,000 ...

Or am I wrong?

Anything that is left lying around for awhile will be deemed as fair game. get the Vaccines administered as a priority.

There are still 643,000 Doses at least to be given to the Medical Professionals.

And I for one , do not begrudge any of it to them.

They are hard working dedicated people who are putting themselves into harms way on a Daily basis, and need all the protection they can get.

The other Vaccines at the hospitals can be given to anybody at all who is in need such as the Old and Vulnerable.

Of course, those who are in the front line should get vaccinated first, but at the same time this is a disapproval of Sinovac. Not even the health authority believes in it. Why then do they continue to vaccinate the population with it? The only thing they achieve is that people become more careless because they feel protected against the virus.

It doesn't say too much about the Sinovac vaccine! So who's ring do we have to kiss for the Pfizer vaccine?
