Can the generalizing on this forum stop some time? Just because you people have seen some guys do the wrong thing, deos not mean that all are doing it. Most of the drivers, both on MC and in cars are not! Get your facts straight!

Many here act like their home country never has the same type problems we see in the LOS.

How fast do you need to be going to upend a truck?

  • Bloody narrow U-turns require that. There is no other chance than keeping your eyes wide open, ready to break when you see a U-turn sign.

Should he even be attempting to do a U-Turn? Sounds like he needed 6 lanes to do it in.

Should there even be U-turns?

They seem to be at the center of so much carnage ...

Yes, why?

Why? That's why ---> I don´t know any Thai driver that are looking at FB while driving, and I have over 10 years of experience. How come? Are you just too unlucky?

very sad - another idiot driving in Thailand likely surfing FB and speeding

RIP RIP RIP

Wasn't it pretty obvious from the post that the truck cut them off? If you follow some local FB pages you see this is a common occurrence: trucks just aggressively pulling an u-turn accross 3 lanes without looking. I lost also one colleague to one of these idiot truck drivers.

You are just another one that believe everyone does, just because you read in the news. Ignored!

It doesn't have to be all of them, just a few to make life dangerous. Are you claiming none of them do it?

Ten years, still wet behind the ears!

The Thai fascination with these deadly U-turns instead of turning at intersections is crazy. So many times, I have had to apply full brake to avoid someone pulling out in front of me starting a U-turn. Worse, are the large trailer trucks pulling out on a U-turn that think that their size gives them the right of way. In this case, it seems the truck must have tried a wide turn crossing in front of the Isuzu's path rather than starting the turn from the inside lane. Drive in a way that they are always trying to kill you here in every way possible, as your life here in reality is cheap and worthless. The carnage continues...

It is true that the way Uturns are designed is asking for accidents to happen. Add speeding and you get the picture.

I tend to agree, they are deadly.

Exactly! Seems like the only thing they have been coming here for, is to make the citizens of the country look as bad as possible. No wonder that some foreigners have problem with feeling accepted and understood.

six wheel truck that was performing a U-Turn.

I'm not saying who is at fault here, since I don't know, but should six wheel trucks be allowed to U-Turn? It's already dangerous enough with a car as it is.

What a stupid thing to say... You aren't with me or anyone else on here at the times we actually see it with our own eyes!!!

No, are you claiming none do it in your home country? Maybe you just feel happy complaining over other people in other countries. Your own poop don´t smell.

Thailand's driving chaos is deep rooted in their culture but don't drag the whole Asia into your slur.

This forum isn't about the country "I come from".

Spent 5 hours driving from Bangkok to Saraburi and back yesterday; I doubt I went any more then a couple of Km in those 5 hours where I did not see the craziness of Thai driving habits and as you said I like yesterday and every other day  I am Thai roads I drive with the defensive attitude that they are all out to create victims of their selfish and impatient driving mayhem.

If we're going to speculate, let's include asleep, drunk, road rage, bad brakes, bad tires, faulty steering, and unlicensed driver.

No, but you should take a look at that before putting a stamp on other people in other countries. Just a tip, it looks much better on you.

What has my country got to do with discussing Thailand and it's road carnage...a country with the worst standard of driving on the planet? That is called misdirection. I am discussing the place where I live and have for a long time. And why bring poop into it, what are you 12?

Oh is that what I should do? And looks much better on me to who, you? Since when do I need your approval for my personal thoughts and opinions?

U-turn infrastructure is the worst infrastructure you can have.

1. Difficult to asses speed of oncoming vehicles by the driver waiting to turn due to the head on angle he is viewing.

2. Having to accelerate whilst turning right from a stop into approaching traffic which can be averaging 27.7 metres per sec at 100km/per/hour.

3. Other vehicles who also attempt the u-turn by coming around on your left side.

4. Many times they will put up street furniture making looking to to your left very difficult.

5. Many of the larger vehicles do not have a small enough turning circle to be able to choose the best lane to go to in an emergency. Eg your underestimate the speed of a car and see it going into the left lane and you are trying to stop in the right lane.

He hit that truck hard

Regardles what the actual cause was, there is one thing certain, that is one hell of an impact for a small pick up to topple a much bigger truck on to it's side - High speed on the part of the pick up driver is a certainty!

Speed must of been high to manage that scale of damage .

Really cant blame u turns . One drives to the condition of the roads at the time  . There are warning signs that there are u turns ahead .

Hard for the driver to live his life with any satisfaction after the death of his three friends .

u turns are not the safest design of road, but probabaly the cheapest and easiest to implement. they do require drivers to be paying attention when approaching them; look for vehicles slowing down ahead, be aware that trucks, and especially those with trailers, turn slowly and have wide turing circles so need to take up a lot of the road. if you run into something infront of you, you are probabaly driving too close to it, or too driving too quickly, or both.

What ever makes you two happy! Just continue the bashing. Must be a miserable life. ????

Sad, very sad. My condolences to the families. Looking at the mess it's amazing that the driver escaped serious injury. The OP says the PU hit the back of the truck but we all know what rule applies but no good speculating...won't bring the young ladies back to life.
