Removing a tree stump.

Featured Replies

We had this same question recently and watched several YouTube videos with different solutions.

Chisel and drill is hard work!

Finally we discovered that putting an oil drum (both lid and end removed) over the stump, adding charcoal, setting alight and putting the lid on and leave to burn overnight and maybe the next day too.  Works like a dream and no hard labour required!

We have 1 oil drum and about 12 stumps to get through. So far we have removed 8.

Before this we tried salt, Mg, acid, poison and the chisel, drill and wedge method - nothing worked well.

Vaguely recollect a farmer telling me he used large copper nails driven into the trunk to kill off trees under TPO's on his land.   https://nimvo.com/why-you-should-use-copper-nails-to-kill-
