ONCB Region 2 monitoring ice and K drugs in Pattaya

Mr. Atthaphol Sayomphak (อรรถพล สยมภาค), the acting Director of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board Region 2, spoke of the monitoring over narcotics in the eastern region. He said that currently the spread of metamphetamines has declined due to serious suppression by all related parties. However the "ice" and "K" drugs have emerged to be the narcotics that require increased monitoring due to rising number of arrests.

Mr. Atthaphol said Pattaya is an area at risk of narcotics spread due to the prevalence of foreigners. However, he noted that prevention of drugs smuggling from the border into Bangkok also needs to be intensified as the present period is when fruits are brought out to the market in large quantities.

Officials would have to be more careful of fruit trucks that enter Bangkok and its vicinity, which may be used by narcotics smugglers.

the narcotics that require increased monitoring

Strange terminology. Monitoring usually refers to observing the activity with the intent of controlling it's prevalence. Maybe something lost in the translation.

Anyway It's good to see they know who to blame for it all, good ole Johnny foriegner.

I doubt that the majority of farangs in Pattaya even know, what Ice and K drugs are (at least I only heard of Ice, but never K?! What is it?)

Touch your own nose, Mr. Thai Rak Thai.... :o

This is one thing that surely can't be blamed on 'foreigners'.

This really is a Thai problem - Thai pushers - Thai addicts / users.

The only 'farang' invo;vement would be the idiots who try to smuggle the stuff out.

(Or am I reading the remarks wrong. Does he mean Burmese and Cambodian ;foreigners'?)

Blame farangs for the alcohol consumption - but only a small percentage of the drugs problem.

What is priceless is the guy from the Narcotic control board saying that Mathamphetamine use has decreased but Ice is in need of monitoring.

Ice is methamphetamine!!!!! It maybe used differently over there but it is still the same drug.

And for Humprey Bear K is Ketamine a horse tranquilliser user alot on the gay scene in the Uk. It relaxes the body and mind loosens inhibitions but can lead to what is known as the K hole where you are almost catatonic for a period.

im quite surprised with the replys to this thread.

im not proud of myself, but in my 4 years here, i lost my way a little bit after the few years, and had a few nights (every night for 6 months) dabbling shall we say.

i was shocked at the late night drug taking by a lot of farang in walking street. K is everywhere and id say 50 % of chrome poll huggers use K and E every night. Ice is a little bit more "hidden" and in my experience no-one really openly talks about it, but the 2 mentioned are worn with a badge of honour by most.

im amazed by some of the posts, pattaya is no.1 for drugs as far as resorts go (farangs included). ibiza doesnt even come close. suppose its the company you keep. kicked mine to the gutter thank god

Good for you. Trust you'll stay that way. I'll help anyone that wants to quit that scene.

I know a good few go-go and bar owners and managers - many try to keep their places clean. Some search the girls' bags and so on each evening (or mamasan does). But it cannot be stopped - or even slowed down - without positive action from the high authorities.

We can pick up the puieces when someone is needing help, but it is damned difficult to stop people starting on this road without good education, public awareness through advertising and stiff penalties for all involved (including loss of family assets) and structured medical and psychological help for the victims.
