Thailand-South Korea stress post-pandemic cooperation

BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand and South Korea have determined the tightening of economic and public health cooperation, in a visit to Thailand by the South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs, at a time when post-pandemic recovery is a particular mutual interest.

 

Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, today welcomed the Republic of Korea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong, in a courtesy call during his official visit to Thailand.

 

Thailand’s Prime Minister mentioned that South Korea has long been a strategic partner of Thailand, and that the Thai government is ready to cooperate with the South Korean government to further advance the relations shared by the two countries.

 

The Prime Minister said Thailand is willing to support South Korea’s New Southern Policy and New Southern Policy Plus, which would further enhance both countries’ relations and cooperation in ensuring a green economy, development of future industries, and public health.

 

The South Korean Foreign Minister said South Korea is ready to cooperate with Thailand in multiple respects, especially in post-pandemic cooperation.

 

He said South Korea recognizes Thailand’s Bio-Circular-Green economic policy as a policy compatible with South Korea’s Green Deal, in which South Korea is willing to provide support for balanced and sustainable growth after the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

On public health, the Thai Prime Minister said Thailand is ready to cooperate and exchange with South Korea, all COVID-19 vaccine developments. He thanked the South Korean government for its vaccination policy which covers Thai nationals and workers.

 

The Thai government stressed it is committed to providing COVID-19 vaccines to foreign nationals in Thailand, including South Koreans, in a timely and inclusive manner.

 

Both sides have on this occasion, welcomed the increasing interest in investment in Thailand by South Korean businesses. The two agreed to further expand their cooperation in areas of mutual benefit towards balanced and sustainable economic growth and development post-pandemic.

 

Both sides mentioned a mutual interest in each other’s culture by the general public, and wishes for an increase in tourism activities between the two countries after the pandemic.
