Thailand on Friday (September 10) reported 14,403 new COVID-19 cases, 15,610 recoveries and 189 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

 

● 15,610 recoveries

● 14,062 new infections 

● 341 prison / prison infections

 

Friday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 1,352,953 with 13,920 deaths.

 

(Total infections since April 1: 1,324,090)

 

The news comes as Thailand plans to reopen Bangkok and other key destinations to foreign tourists next month, officials said on Thursday, aiming to revive its battered travel industry after indications the number of new coronavirus infections may have peaked.

 

Bangkok, Hua Hin, Pattaya and Chiang Mai will be added to a programme in which fully vaccinated visitors who commit to a series of tests can enter, under certain criteria, said government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchan.

 

The scheme is underway on the islands of Samui and Phuket, where about 70% of the local population were required to be fully inoculated..

Chonburi Public Health Office is reporting 802 new cases today and 11 more deaths. Most new cases are in Chonburi City (175), Bang Lamung/Pattaya (104), and Si Racha (187). There are 13,579 patients in care #COVID19 #โควิดวันนี้ #Thailand

Looking at today from inside the hospital lobby where I currently sit, I see many foreigners qued up for vaccinations.  One wonders if today they will vaccinate 900k or so again as it is a Friday.  I am seeing many rescue foundation workers, ambulance personnel and such here as well, which means that they must be getting the needed boosters.  As for me my second vaccination is next week, and it has been 11 weeks since I had my first jab while many have already been jabbed twice depending on the vaccines used. Saw on the early morning news a story of the BMA going around to the areas they believe are those most infected with a large bus type vehicle and doing vaccinations from the bus.  Just need your house book, and ID and they will vaccinate you from 18 years old and up, but it seems that it might only be for Thais.  Still waiting on a vaccination for my GF who can not have either Sinovac, Sinopharm or AZ due to certain medical issues.  Also saw that they are really advertising for Domestic travel, and as my GF stated "Looks like you can go, but I can not since you will be fully vaccinated"  She has been tested 2 times so far and both times negative via PCR, and she does not want to be jabbed to her brain again.  

 

As far as todays numbers go, it seems the gap between the new positive cases and those released is narrowing. Deaths have dropped under 200 for the first time in a while, but then I wonder if those on ventilators has also decreased, which would be a promising sign.  However, how many did they test again to get todays numbers, and how many non counted ATK positive tests were there.  looks like we are still in a 18% plus positivity rate if they only tested 48k, which has been the average, and as an article/OP from yesterday indicated the BMA folks and medical community believe that over half of BKK has already been infected.

 

Stay safe, stay vigilant, protect your families and yourself, and stay aware of what's going on when you go into restaurants, or the malls. Last night we notice a large group crowded in the parking lot of the 7-11 behind us drinking and partying up, it was only 8pm and I am sure by 9 they were gone, we ran inside grabbed what was needed and went back to the car and home.  Take care folks.

30th Aug there were 4,074 accumulated cases with 19 deaths giving a 0.44% CFR

9th Sept there were 6,391 accumulated cases with 33 deaths giving a 0.52% CFR

 

10 days and its jumped up, lets hope it remains that way and does not creep up too much more.

I like this virus. It's got spunk. It's not going down without a fight. But going down it is.

Whilst I 100% believe the numbers I do not believe they are an indication of the covid cases in Thailand.

There are more - how many?

I wonder if no testing (save money) is better than inadequate testing as these numbers prove what???

For a few weeks its been around 42k tested a day with circa 14k positive circa 30% positive ratio!

 

Now last couple of days they are not publishing the miniscule amount tested but instead choose to publish the positive ratio which by coincidence has dropped to 18% ..... the magic of Thailand!

This morning, I went to see my doctor for my 4 monthly blood test.

 

The last time I visited her was back in May when she and her staff were fully vaccinated with two doses of Sinovac.  In july, the doctor, her family (inclduding her 18 months yr old daughter) and also the staff all went down with covid-19.

 

Fortunately, they have all now recovered and received an AZ booster, not Pfizer as I would have thought.

I also notice walkins are going down. Vaccines probably account for this but also people with some symptoms who would have previously gone to hospital for testing are doing ATK at home. If positive maybe not be reported. Maybe get a false negative and think they're ok and continue to move within the community. It was as you say @sapsonrunning at around 30% and now 2 days later has decreased almost 50%. Bit like the recovered which increased 50% almost overnight.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Dr Yong Poovorawan said everyone should receive Covid-19 vaccine, but the disease affects the elderly and people with chronic diseases rather than children.

Education Ministry aims to reopen schools by November

 

The Education Ministry said on Thursday that it intends to reopen schools by November, in time for the second semester of the 2021 academic year.

Ministry spokesperson Kesthip Supawanich said postponing or suspending the reopening of schools will affect the development of children. She also said it was not fair to get students stressed and affected in the long term.

Prediction for international travellers to Thailand lowered again

 

The Tourism Authority of Thailand, known for its rose-tinted predictions and press releases, had predicted in January that 2021 would bring 3 million international travellers. They later revised that target to 1.2 million visitors, but now say they expect to hit only 300,000 international travellers by the end of the year. Always the eternal optimist, the TAT says their targets are still achievable as they look forward to a booming fourth quarter that sees reopenings in Pattaya, Chiang Mai, and Hua Hin drawing in droves of international tourists.

 

Kasikorn Research Centre, whose predictions perhaps tend to be a bit more grounded and less head-in-the-clouds, have likewise downgraded their already low prediction. They had previously projected about 250,000 international travellers arriving in Thailand this year, a far cry from the TAT’s 1.2 million target. They now are forecasting a total of just 150,000 visitors from abroad for the entirety of 2021.
