The deputy director of the Department of Disease Control was non-committal when pressed about Bangkok's reopening.

October 15th has been mentioned as a date for opening up the Thai capital but Dr Sophon Iamsirithavorn called it a "tough question".

It is a large area with many things to consider though he agreed that many people had been vaccinated in Bangkok.

He said that the country could not be all opened up at once. Some places were ready while others were only half ready and some only partly.

The latter would have to wait, he said, in comments reported by Daily News. What these areas are were not specified in their story.

Dr Sophon reiterated that lessons should be learned from the Phuket Sandbox like Koh Samui did for its Samui Plus Model.

Bit by bit was the message, not wholesale reopening.

Pressed on the vaccine rollout he was similarly evasive saying that each province has different percentages of those vaccinated and supplies are being sent.

He expected more supplies of vaccine to come into the country in October.
