Health minister denies Thailand rejected 1m dose Pfizer vaccine donation offered by US

Featured Replies

A thoroughly corrupt man - Shame on you Anutin.

People in this country are dying every day. They are desperate to get vaccinated and you ignore the offer of a million Pfizer vaccines ?  Resign.

  • All smoke and mirrors, this is whats been reported so far:   The US wants to send us 1 million Pfizer doses but can’t because Thai government hasn’t done paperwork “[We have] a million

  • Is this just Thailand doing what China wants and says?   Or is that too sophisticated a theory and the Thai Ministers just can't get their sh*t together and know what the left hand is doing.

  • Wouldn't be the first here and certainly won't be the last.

We didn't offer a tip. Perhaps that would have solved it. We were already married in the U.S. Just trying to get our marriage recorded as official in Thailand in case I sought a marriage visa rather than a retirement visa at some point.

Although the knock-off version of Windows 7 currently in use by most government depts, purchased from Pantip is fairly basic.

Nothing this incompetent could do or say would mean anything, at this point. The saying "all credibility is lost" was invented for you Anutin!

Nobody believes anything he or Prayuth say. Thailand desperately needs policy, competent ministers with experience in the fields their ministries are in charge of, and at least a tiny amount of vision and planning. Prayuth and Anutin lack every pre-requisite. So do most of the ministers. Likely the two least qualified and least effective of the lot. One would think during a national emergency, a skilled and talented tourism and health minister would be considered important.

He does not inspire confidence, as he has no follow up in his game, is highly insincere, and is grossly incompetent and under qualified for the job. One would think after 7 plus years he has had time to learn. That does not appear to be the case. He is a terrible health minister. This kind of national emergency is real proof that Thailand should never allow another coup to happen. With a civilian government that is democratically elected, and a truly representative body in the senate, Thailand at least has a chance of qualified ministers being appointed based on merit and talent.

With Prayuth and this army, there is little chance of this ever happening. They are re-defining the words cronyism and inept on a daily basis.

Instead of coming on a web-board like this and insulting these people on a near daily basis -- whether they deserve it or not -- why not try the sword which may be mightier than your pen.

Have your Thai wife run for PM in her home district. She can say: I'm just your typical Isaan girl (if that's the case) and I'm bewildered by and don't know how to solve all these problems in Thailand.

But my farang husband knows EVERYTHING! and how to solve ALL of Thailand's problems and will lead us to that "Shining city on the hill". You Betcha.

It's the fake wings that stick in my craw as well, my Dad was in 2 Para, the Royal Engineers, and 4 Royal Tank Regiment over a twelve year Army stint. He got One (1) general service medal with a Malaya clasp, and wings he bloody well earned. I loathe these two bit fancy dress goons with a visceral hatred.

The military are the problem here, and their societal worship of it (Army Day?) makes me want to throw up in my own mouth.

They claim never to have been colonized, BS! They bent over for the Japanese, after 3 days of skirmishes, and did a deal. And no less than Churchill wanted them to pay for that, but somehow, they slimed out of that reckoning too! And another thing, the Burmese, in better days, handed them their butts on more than one occasion.

Thank you. Though the truth may hurt, the truth IS the truth. None of these guys would be prepared to sacrifice one iota of their beings for their nation. None. Utter cowards and despots.

Very lame. Nearly every time I see someone complaining, or observing a shortfall within Thailand, some lame guy, who has not taken the time to think things through, nor to devote any focus or effort to a reasonable reply, says something like "Perhaps Thailand is not for you", or "my husband knows everything", "maybe you should leave", or the top prize, "if you do not like it here, go back to your own country". Hard to even respond to such inane statements. Why? Because I have some issues with the place? Sorry to inform you, but the nature of a discerning mind, is to have issues. Though absolute contentment must be a beautiful state of mind, it is not something most of us are blessed with, in case you have not noticed. The fact that I complain, does not mean I do not love Thailand, nor most of it's people. I do.

I love my life here. I have a very good life here. But, I do have some complaints, and there are some things I would love to see improved. I should leave because of that? Please. Next time you make a post, try to devote at least two moments of thought to it.

Yes, China complained when Thais refused their vax and waited for the western ones, they were progressing toward Chinese hegemony in Thailand nicely until that reality presented itself. The khakis are ready to play ball but the rest of the people are dragging their heals until they get an incentive to sell out also, like Chinese paying retail prices to buy up the property. The trainline from China to BKK should be ready by then...

In the end, Thailand will find it finally has become a colony, or at least China's Florida????

You never hear a lot of the negative results from the Sino, death etc.  from the Thai leaders currently I up north in Thailand with the wife to attend to her older brother funeral, he was 65, as far as I know he didn't have any sever underlying condition seem pretty fit and strong for  65, several days ago he was given the Sino and within a few hours he developed a blood clot in this lungs went back to the hospital two days in ICU, didn't make it.

I mentioned to the hospital adminitrator I read a number of months ago that if someone was given vaccine by the government and dies that the government would take responsibility and make a pay out of something like 400,000 baht or at least pay for the funeral expense the guy just looked at me and said he knows nothing of it?

Lets hope Thailand is following the US Embassy on twitter....555

Thailand will get 1 million doses of vaccine soon, says US Embassy

The US Embassy in Bangkok posted on Twitter on Saturday that the US will donate an additional 1 million doses of safe and effective vaccines to Thailand.

The embassy added that the US and Thailand are working in close coordination to complete all necessary documentation. They look forward to the second shipment of vaccines to Thailand as soon as possible.

It has to be that China disapproved.  And that  sad to think they are pulling Thailand's strings like this.

“[We have] a million doses that are waiting to go but Thailand has not finished the paperwork,” Duckworth said.

“I told the ambassador a month ago that it needs to be completed and they said they are going to go work on it…and in my position, it is very hard for me to go to the President and the national security agency and asked for more vaccines for Thailand when there is a million waiting that can’t be sent.”

Tammy said she had originally asked for the same amount for Indonesia and since there was no delay on documentation with them, Indonesia has now received more than eight million doses.

Anutin accuses US senator of “fake news” over Pfizer delay

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul Thursday refuted comments by US Senator Tammy Duckworth that the next batch of US Pfizer vaccine donated to Thailand is being held up by bureaucracy in Bangkok.

“From the discussion with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it has been found that the ministry has yet to receive the diplomatic document from the US government about the extra vaccine support to Thailand, so the news is not real,” Anutin said.

If I were given the choice of who to believe between Senator Tammy Duckworth and Anutin who would I choose?

Dumb question really.

Anutin who?

Oh that little tosser.

Tammy Duckworth every time as most sensible people worldwide would do.

Hopefully he can arrange to get this offer.

It is that old Thai "face" thing again. He has been caught failing in his duty once again, so rather than admitting the truth that he screwed up yet again, thus losing "Face" he is looking for someone NOT in Thailand to blame and it must be the donors of the vaccines, the USA and Tammy Duckworth.

I am surprised that he didn't blame Thaksin Shinawatra as Sudarat Keyuraphan of the TRT party was involved.

I don't believe a word this man says...

I don't believe anything without supporting evidence. And in a case like this evidence from both sides required.

Any politician/government employee that opens their mouth all I hear are lies until they prove it.

I believe in track records also.

Consider the difference between them and count the number of lies each has told. Elected Senator Tammy Duckworth wins by a landslide. She has no need to help Thailand and its people but she does because her mother is Thai. She gains nothing for herself.

And then take Anutin who does little for Thailand and the Thai people but much for himself and his cronies.

Now who do you believe is telling the truth in this particular case?

Agree 100%.  I just emailed my thanks to Senator Duckworth, for her help in the Pfizer donation.  Got my 2nd Pfizer shot last week.
