Response to "Sandbox Schools" lukewarm, could be dead in the water

Response to the government's plan to open schools under a "Sandbox Safety Zone in Schools" (SSS) project is a non-starter - at least in Bangkok.

That's the opinion of Attaphol Treuktrong of the Office of the National primary Education Commission.

So far only ten schools have wanted to get involved in the plan in Bangkok. Data for up-country is yet to be collated.

The reasons are threefold said Attaphol.

Parents are not confident about the Covid-19 situation, parents don't want to take their children to school and schools are faced with having to bill parents large amounts for testing.

It was calculated that one term (November to Songkran) would involve 40 ATK tests that would mean 8,000 baht per pupil.

While this might be sustainable in the international sector far fewer parents in the cheaper private sectors or state sector would be prepared to foot this extra bill.

Yes, same for my daughter's kids back in the UK.

Thai Govt come up with these schemes but just aren't prepared to foot the bill and want to pass it on to cash strapped parents instead.

Bad marketing to call the school opening program after the utter rubbish Phuket "sand Box"

Way to go!

Yep I can see why this fell on deaf ears... even those in the private sector would balk at having to cover testing costs at that level.
