BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's economy is still expected to grow 1.3% this year and the government is maintaining a target of 4-5% growth next year as it makes a push to revitalise the economy through measures, the finance minister said on Monday.

The finance ministry's growth outlook this year is "quite optimistic" as compared with forecasts by the private sector, Finance minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith told a business seminar.

I understand that there are different ways of calculating things, but shouldn´t a finance minister take the debt situation in consideration? In that case the is no growth. If lucky, only a contraction delivering the same amount in percent.

These Thai finance ministers wouldn't get a job at a rural bank branch! Every time they revise the GDP projections, sometimes several times in a month it seems lately, they're up and down like a bride's night-gown. The dart board in their tea room must be getting well worn.

Surely it depends on the quality of the fortune teller???
