Riverside residents in Bangkok not protected by a flood wall should move valuables to higher ground

People in over 200 riverside dwellings and businesses in 7 districts of Bangkok (Dusit, Phra Nakhon, Samphanthawong, Bang Kho Laem, Yan Nawa, Bangkok Noi and Khlong San), which are not protected by a flood wall, have been advised today (Thursday) to move their valuables to higher ground, in anticipation of a water level rise in the Chao Phraya River between now and October 5th.

 

Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang said today that the city’s administration has been closely monitoring the situation in the Chao Phraya River and has taken steps to cope with the anticipated rise in water level, due to the increased discharged through the Chao Phraya Dam upstream in Chainat province and the Pasak Jolasid Dam.

 

He said city officials have checked the 78-km long flood wall along the Chao Phraya River and placed sand bags in low-lying areas which are not protected by a flood wall or where the wall is not high enough.

Prayuth said there would be no flooding 2 weeks ago said it was all under control - he would give an order as a General and make it all go away - yet another mess

The problem with flood walls is they can also trap water on the inland side, thus creating a swimming pool for residents where one is not welcome.

Residents might also demand resignation of NCPO/PM Prayut who has been in power for 7 years. And likely will desire to continue as PM for another term.

Failing that Prayut should have all his wealth confiscated to cover the Thai people financial losses due to continued annual flooding (it's predictable!).

the amazing thing is the proactive nature of the announcement.

 

of course, the proactive move of releasing water from the dam earlier and over time, before the levels get so high as to require the sudden release of a bolus of flood-inducing water, still escapes them

There is nothing worse that a leadership team that constantly lies to the public and then has to reverse the rhetoric as and when the true facts emerge and make the ass covering lies and false statements stand out as starkly as dog's balls.
