Thailand on Friday (October 1) reported 11,754 new COVID-19 cases, 12,473 recoveries and 123 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

◼︎ 12,473 recoveries

◼︎ 11,253 new infections

◼︎ 501 prison / prison infections

▶︎ Total infections since April 1: 1,586,366

▶︎ Total recoveries since since April 1: 1,455,720

Friday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 1,603,475 with 16,727 deaths.

The news comes as Secretary-General of Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (TFDA), Dr. Paisal Dankhum, says that the Public Health Ministry is now allowing the sale of antigen test kits (ATK) in shops and online, to enable easier public access to them.

The general public, shops and companies are allowed to purchase kits which have been authorised by the TFDA directly from manufacturers and importers.

The kits which are approved can be verified through the TFDA’s website or through its QR code.

An increase in cases and deaths as some restrictions will be lifted.  October should be an interesting month if not some significant improvement the November plans may be delayed.

Favipiravir induce cutaneous adverse reactions in COVID-19-infected patients

Favipiravir has been used for treatment of COVID-19 in many countries. To determine Favipiravir induced cutaneous adverse reactions in COVID-19-infected patients, we observed COVID-19-infected patients who were hospitalized at Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute, a principal centre of emerging infectious disease in Thailand, and presented with cutaneous eruption following Favipiravir prescription.

Surely it's inevitable that cases will start to increase as restrictions are lifted? But as long as the hospitals can cope and vaccinations continue to increase, 'normal" life has to go on.

They will or at least that’s what tends to happen everywhere else in the world but you’re absolutely right it’s about keeping check on hospitals and increasing vaccinations. The Nov 1 partial opening will have no impact on numbers what will is the easing of restrictions here in the higher risk area's.

The Health Ministry already knows that and have said as much so it’s a matter of keeping a good measure of surveillance in place to monitor local spikes in infections.

Forget any of those predictions by the Health Ministry, 3 weeks ago they accepted that numbers would rise a a result. Yesterday they predicted positive numbers would go down to 5,000 per day by the end of this month, however they admitted that was with a simple statistical projection, along with covering their backs to say it may also increase.

The week before they said it would become endemic and hover at around 10,000 per day but it would definitely not go to zero. So plenty or wriggle room by them. They’ve got as much chance of getting it right as any forum poster here.

There's a list of normal vaccine development but here's a couple of the oddities

Tobacco vaccines and lizard blood: Meet Thailand’s contenders to tackle COVID-19

Lizard Blood

No rundown of vaccines would be complete without a mention of one of the projects on the more experimental end of the spectrum. Jitkamol Thanasak, a professor at Mahidol University, is currently carrying out studies on monitor lizard blood as a potential cure for COVID.

Alternative Medicine

Complementing Thailand’s research into vaccines are studies into alternative medicines to treat COVID. Amid efforts by the government to promote their use, demand for fingerroot (krachai khao) and green chiretta (fah talai jone) has boomed. But while the herbs have been used for centuries across Asia to treat various infections and ailments, like the flu, their ability to treat coronavirus remains in doubt.

Makes me wonder why they held off on adding those numbers to the everyday totals and just one giant dump, like the prison cases at the beginning of this wave.

There is a weekly target to be met.

Friday is usual day for dump.

Just mixing it up for variety.

My own opinion,my apologies I forgot this is thaivisa forum where positive comments are frowned upon and negative comments are applauded.

Not at all, great spot for tourists who want some adventure canoeing is in one of the flooded provinces right now, on the way back so long as they have some pocket change they’ll get a great deal on a purchase of one of the empty hotels before the Chinese snap them all up.

Honestly there’s going to be no tourist volume worth thinking about till Thailand gets its act together. TAT can predict 1 million this year but the banks tell it how it is.

Great beaches though so long as you ignore the plight of the locals
