Thailand removed from the UK “red list”, list reduced to only seven countries

Thailand/UK-According to the UK government, only seven countries will remain on the so-called “red list” that requires mandatory quarantine at a government quarantine center upon return and is a major deterrent to travel

Thailand, a previous country on the list, has been REMOVED, despite rumors earlier in the day (which TPN media did NOT report on) that it wasn’t being removed. This means visitors from the UK can now travel to Thailand without a mandatory quarantine upon return, only having to take a Covid-19 test on the day after their arrival back into the country.

Only seven countries will remain on the UK red list from a previous list of 54.

The seven countries that will remain on the red list are Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Venezuela.

This will be effective from Monday, October 11th, 2021, according to the UK government.

COVID-19: Travel red list to be slashed to seven countries as 47 destinations are removed

The UK government has also approved 37 more vaccine programmes so people from those countries will no longer have to quarantine if they come from a non-red list nation.

Alix Culbertson

South Africa, Thailand, Mexico and the Seychelles are among 47 countries being taken off England and Wales's travel red list as it is slashed to just seven.

One reason less for immigration to consider requests for extension of stay.

Won’t make much difference to the numbers coming here I reckon. There might be a rise in people coming around Christmas and new year , but mid January I think it will bomb again till summer . Still too expensive for what it is to come here and if bars are still shut , curfew is still in place and you can’t drink in a restaurant with your meal then forget it !

So no quarantine going home but the hurdles to get here still remain... including quaarantine

shame Thailand can't start dropping them, but then the SHA revenue would be lost.

Now lets wait and see if they are moved down to Level 3 for the US instead of being at Level 4, which will make it more amenable for folks to travel here.

However, the current restrictions on quarantine will still pose a problem for many folks as 1 week in quarantine, be it a Sandbox or not for vaccinated folks and the multiple testing via PCR will still keep people from coming if they only have a 2 week vacation.  Additionally, I see the caveat here being that the sandbox destinations and range allowed needs to be laid out for all to see so they can decide if it is affordable for them, if the locations are amenable to local travel and without a guide and so on.

I would now be expecting Thailand to dump the Sandbox style rules for UK travellers and treating visitors exactly the same as UK Green

Yes sir, correct, where would the billions come from to fill the coffers of the friends of the Government and not the mom and pop shops or small boutique hotels.

actually I think we will see a huge exit from Thailand, I know a lot of people that have been waiting for this and will now be making travel plans

Wow with this good news, I will wait to see the new

fantastic forecast from TAT. I can imagine they will be over the moon with their new numbers.

Maybe by November 15, the Thai government will have to say that the alcohol sales will be

allowed in at least some places in the country. That may be the day that a few more people will start

to commit to going to Thailand for a holiday.  Of course it would be nice if a lot of the restrictions, rules and

other wise general headaches be gone for people who may want to spend a couple weeks or so in

Thailand during the Winter months.  Here s hoping.

UK eases travel rules for countries including Thailand

by Reuters

LONDON, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Britain will scrap tough COVID-19 quarantine requirements for 47 destinations including South Africa and Thailand on Monday and make it easier for people to arrive from countries including India and Turkey in the latest relaxation of the rules.

Britain's tourism industry has essentially lost two full summers after travel restrictions imposed to contain the spread of COVID-19 deterred many people from going abroad.

Many countries with high infection levels were put on a red list, requiring arrivals to spend 10 days in a government provided quarantine hotel, while the need for a PCR test and other tests often cost more than the flight itself.

Airlines such as Ryanair and easyJet have said that the approach and the frequently changing restrictions have delayed any recovery in the sector, leaving the British industry lagging its European peers.

On Thursday, transport minister Grant Shapps said he would remove 47 destinations from the red list. Seven countries will remain, including Colombia, Ecuador, Panama and Venezuela.

He has also eased the rules for countries such as India, Turkey and Ghana, meaning that the inoculation status of arrivals will be recognised and fully vaccinated arrivals will only need to take a test on day 2 to check for COVID.

In a further change, passengers will be able to send a picture of their lateral flow test result to verify test accuracy once the requirement switches from the more expensive PCR test to lateral flow later this month.

Shapps said restoring people's confidence in travel was key to rebuilding the economy. "With less restrictions and more people traveling, we can all continue to move safely forward together along our pathway to recovery."

About time too

Now over to you Prayut. Time to drop the quarantine and the bureaucratic obstacle course (CoE etc) here. But this will be resisted by hoteliers in Bkk and Pkt who get guaranteed income from quarantine

Yes. I can now at least start to try and make a plan to go back for a couple of  weeks in November.

Picking up my Vaccination certificate and hopefully passport on Monday.

FinnAir return to BKK via Helsinki looks good.

As you say, coming back still a pain.

Heading back fo Hogmanay...yes..

I'm out of here phew! No state sponsored quarantine at a bargain £2300

Another step forward on the path to normality.  Maybe I will finally use my BA voucher from 2020.

And it's also been announced that Thailand will be added to the list of countries and territories with approved proof of vaccination 4am Monday 11 October. If you arrive in England before that date you must follow the rules for people who are not fully vaccinated. If you arrive after that, you can use a vaccine certificate to prove your vaccination status.

What will be nice is when some sense of normalcy for international flights is regained so that one can travel freely there and back.  The hops that Thailand has in place as far as the COE, Medical Insurance and applying to enter the country before arriving needs to be reassessed if they want tourists to return.  When that occurs maybe I will be able to fly back and forth to the US like I used to do.  I wonder just how long that will take and then wonder if testing 72 hours prior to flying will be mandated for the long term even if vaccinated, and then how long they will allow you to fly once vaccinated before they insist on your vaccine passport showing a booster.  Coming up to almost 2 years of the majority of folks being sidelined from flying here.  Elsewhere my family fly's monthly in the States for their jobs and such and not much in the way of restrictions except showing the vaccination card, which is verified, if you lie your arrested.
