Stayed at le Saint Geran a few years ago.

I think it was voted the best hotel in the world by some French magazine.

A great Island. How can it not be? It has Indians, Chinese, and Africans living there. That means the food is great.

And to top it off they speak Creole.

The teperature is between 23 and 27 all year round.

Check out Ill aux cerf, it has the best beech in the world...and a golf course.

Now family members are in Mauritius for honeymoon. Will give more recent (not difficult) infos in 2 week times if it is still ok for OP

There is a Lonely Planet edition "Mauritius, Reunion & Seychelles" available which I found very useful and informative. However you may have trouble finding it in Thailand.

I travelled to Mauritius with Emirates using airmiles from Dubai, enroute from London to Bangkok.

I booked a hotel on-line using the location info from Lonely Planet.

If you are travelling from Bangkok a more direct route would be through Singapore - Singapore Airlines and Air Mauritius, but maybe no cheaper than Emirates through Dubai.

Good Luck

Dear Friend,

How about the place ?. what do you think compare o bali or puket?

No visa require for UK, Ireland,USA, Aus,Can, Japan, NZ or EU citizens (3 months given on entry). But best to have hotel booking confirmation letter on arrival to reduce 'interrogation' time. This info is 3 years old so check to be sure.

Mauritius is mainly covered by sugar cane plantations so has a different feel to other places, i.e. more open and pretty breezy. Obviously more expensive but not outrageous. Most people go for the beach life and water sports, night life was pretty quiet, and the whole place is pretty tranquil.

Cannot recommend a travel agent here in Bangkok. Maybe best to check for hotel deals online and make your own flight booking.

Don’t even compare the beaches Mauritius to Phuket or Bali…..you can’t

Mauritius beaches must be some of the best in the world, stunning white coral sand and clean….be careful of the Barracudas when swimming off coral reefs

Some good small casinos also

I got Married at Saint Geran….A really Nice hotel (was part of the South African Sun hotels) wonderful Island the food is brilliant

The good beaches I saw (Grand Baie) tended to be smaller and many are private belonging to hotels. Also many private houses line the coast so access to the sea is limited in places. However plenty of beaches to visit around the island. As I said the feel of the place is different so the only way to find out is to see it for yourself.

Not much more I can say.
