Thailand’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation (CCSA) has decided to ease lockdown restrictions further by lifting the night-time curfew and the ban on serving alcoholic drinks in restaurants in Bangkok and some other provinces, effective November 1st.

The CCSA has also significantly reduced the number of the provinces in the “maximum and strict controlled areas” or the so-called “dark red” zone. The change includes Bangkok from November 1st, which coincides with the reopening of Thai borders to foreign arrivals.

Only in the new “dark red” zone, which now includes Chanthaburi, Tak, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala and Songkhla, where COVID-19 infections are still surging, the curfew from 11 pm to 3 am will remain in place, as the restriction has been lifted in Thailand’s remaining 70 provinces.

  • Additionally I have read elsewhere it's only going to be 'certain parts' of Bangkok that will be permitted. If so then that's obviously a great way to contain covid, that is.... force people to travel

  • Well from the PBS linked article   "According to the CCSA, Bangkok, Krabi, Phang-Nga and Phuket are the only provinces where alcoholic drinks may be served in eateries."   and

I guess by prohibition, the poster you quoted was referring to alcohol sales, not curfew.

And to that effect the article unfortunately states "According to the CCSA, Bangkok, Krabi, Phang-Nga and Phuket are the only provinces where alcoholic drinks may be served in eateries."

Well from the PBS linked article

"According to the CCSA, Bangkok, Krabi, Phang-Nga and Phuket are the only provinces where alcoholic drinks may be served in eateries."

and

"No pubs and bars in Thailand can reopen at this time."

Looks like prohibition to me.

Clear as mud as usual.

"There were also mixed messages on if tourist zones/districts in provinces (Like Hua Hin, Pattaya, Cha-am, or Chiang Mai) could sell alcohol in restaurants or if governors could allow them to do so and this is NOT YET CRYSTAL CLEAR.  This will likely get further clarification later this weekend, although one may need to wait for the governor’s orders. The press meeting did mention 13 specific districts (which includes Banglamung/Pattaya) being part of the tourist pilot zones but was not clear on if alcohol sales would be allowed at restaurants."

Every bar becomes a restaurant just as they did last time.

I’d bet some baht they’re going to somehow categorize gogos, clubs, and beer bars as distinctly risk-laden and keep them shut until there’s almost none left. Oh well! Off to a villa party

As clear as the khlong water next to a muddy field, during a flood!

Two days ago they arrested 61 people at a bar off of Sukhumvit road by Asoke for drinking alcohol.

Throughout many provinces, such was never truly observed or enforced.

Not true. That did not work for many bar owners. The police examine the license which determines whether the establishment is a bar or restaurant. Places without a restaurant license were raided and closed

No they covered that with "eateries"

Yes but in other formally very touristic places they jump on every offence they can find

that's not to say that the drinking and dancing and partying doesn't go on but it's now rather risky   like the "prohibition" times in America  ..I wonder if there will be a Thai NASCAR (ish) or something else phenomenon emerge from this era.

Four blue zones in Chiang Mai. Booze in restaurants or pubs in these zones? Who knows. I reckon the decision will be given to the new governor, that way if it goes pear shaped no one in Bangkok is to blame.

Good news. Now get off your keyboards, stop complaining, and wait for the official announcements.

But who is able to define what a 'manner that could spread the virus' looks like?

"But on Friday, an announcement was published on the Royal Gazette banning any public gathering "in a manner that could spread the virus".

wahoo

Great news. The puritans and the virtue signallers will no doubt be wringing their hands and hiding under the bed sheets but let's face it, nobody takes them seriously anyway ????.

This weekend will be my last weekend drinking bottled beer from a cheap mug. Hallelujah!!!

But your party is in a restaurant.

If a bar sells food is it a retaurant?

Entertainment probably reopen in December, but let’s see the Covid numbers

If you're going to open up might as well go all in!
