More than 20,000 tourists have entered Thailand since November 1, with most hailing from the United States.

On Sunday, the Department of Disease Control (DDC) said that a total of 20,092 tourists had entered the country since November 1, the day when Thailand reopened 17 provinces to fully vaccinated travelers.

Of those, just 15 had tested positive for COVID-19, accounting for approximately 0.07 per cent of all arrivals.

The DDC said most arrivals from hailed from the United States (2,465), Germany (2,334), the UK (1,376), and Japan (1,258), followed by South Korea (906), Russia (905), Switzerland (838), Sweden (724), France (695), and UAE (542).

Most of the arrivals (12,978) entered Thailand at Suvarnabhumi Airport, followed by Phuket Airport (6,722 people) Samui Airport (309) and Chiang Mai Airport (83).

The confirmed COVD-19 cases were found amongst tourists arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport (5 positive tests) and Phuket Airport (10 positive tests).

Have to make a start somewhere . The yearly number of foreign tourists look like less than one million over a 12 month period if the numbers declared continue .

If all the foreign visitors are wealthy this could be equivalent to 10 million visitors pre covid over the year .

Of course, when you want reliable statistics on tourist arrivals the Dept. of Disease Control is the obvious place to ask [rolleyes]. Just like when I want to know about, say, the number of dengue fever cases then the people in the know about that will all be at TAT, lol.

If they mean 20,000 non Thai's but mostly not tourists then that would be believable.

Has there been any reporting concerning those travelling close to those testing positive? Are they tracked down, re-tested, held in a quarantine facility for X days, whatever?

I came back from Europe yesterday. Plane not even 50 people total. Over 50% Thai. And the rest retired people who have property or family here. Tourists close to ZERO

Where they come from is not important, why are they coming here is. Most are enjoying being locked in their own country. Most are worried about their future living in these hard times.

From 12 hours ago :- "Since November 1st, when Thailand reopened the country to foreign arrivals, 16,595 have entered Thailand......................."

This post:-  "On Sunday, the Department of Disease Control (DDC) said that a total of 20,092 tourists had entered the country since November 1,................"

I'm just waiting for TAT to announce their figures - any bets on 30,000 +?

Now, if there were a pandemic prevalent in this part of the world, then you might think that the Dept. of Disease Control would be keeping a tally. But since nothing like that is occurring....oh wait...

20,000 foreign arrivals. Very few are tourists. Mostly expats. Would be interesting to know the numbers from previous months, as probably similar.

So weird, you come from Europe and you vaccinated twice, tested negative on departure and on arrival you test positive???? something not right there IMO

Hmmm, another article I saw said the people testing +ve were all unvaccinated and untested prior to travelling = Thai nationals, if they are untested and un vaccinated they are not tourists, they are returning Thais. It would be intersting to see a breakdown of the arrivals to see exactly how many are actual "tourists", (i.e. holidaymakers) and how many are "tourists" (i.e. expats who've lived here for years but are still classed as tourists, and always will be, by the government.) and how many were returning Thai nationals. But I guess while I wait I'll count all the stars in the universe as that answer will probably be reached quicker.

My math says 12,043 foreigners. At least the number noted, not 20k.

But I have been wrong often.....

Are all those 20 K passengers people that are on a 2/3 week Holiday in Thailand , or, are some in transit to other Countries.

I don’t believe any of their numbers of how many truths are actually coming the truth is most of them are either ex-pats returning or Thai nationals coming home T IT

  • Popular Post

This is all phoney I believe,  99% of anyone entering Thailand is either a Thai returning home or a married expat coming back.

The actual tourist numbers would be very low indeed I suspect,  but they won't tell you that because Thai's can never tell the truth.

Agree. This morning there seems to be an increase of farangs eating at my favorite Thai eatery and almost all seem like they are the elderly type/retirees coming to Thailand to escape the winter. Hardly called 'tourists'.

Yes.  My condo block normally has more snowbirds than most, last year, none, but these last few days some old faces are trickling in.  Scandi's rather than Americans, but it's all income for Thailand.

Now all we need are bars.

Yes, vaccinations in the US are ubiquitous and available at drugstores everywhere. As our Grab driver said to us an the way home from our quarantine hotel, “Farangs should be scared of us, not the other way around.”

I have no idea as regards today's numbers but there are lots of ethnic Thai American citizens especially in California. Sat next to one girl on a flight -- looked like she could be living in Thailand but she spoke just like a California valley girl.

It should.  Majority of Americans are vaccinated.  Unlike alot of farangs at Tree town who are not

I am an American, but this shows how totally stupid people are in the US where travel is concerned.

Care to expand a little bit for us. I too am an American, but I still try and travel back to the US when I can. With the lifting of restrictions I will fly out in January and return about 5 weeks later.

I travel about 9 months a year. Too many better places to spend your time and money. People from the US are clueless.
