The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is planning to inform the Thai Cabinet Committee that the government of the United States is preparing to donate an additional 1 million doses of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine to Thailand.

Foreign Affairs Minister Don Pramudwinai revealed to the press today, November 9th, that the US government is willing to donate mRNA vaccines to Thailand through the Department of Disease Control of the Ministry of Public Health.

The Ministry then will propose the matter to seek approval from the Cabinet at the next meeting. The initial number of the Moderna vaccines was about 1 million doses, according to the authorities, and will be delivered to the Kingdom soon.

I don't understand the need to approve accepting a free vaccine donation with no strings attached. Do donations of vaccines hurt this Governments image or something.... wait a minute...well maybe free and donated do hurt the image of an inept government whose vaccination strategy seems to have had major stumbling points.  Why not just shoot themselves in the foot again.

However, to me it reeks of ineptitude and a lack of caring for and about the Thai people.

I would not be surprised if they also want to collect a massive amount of import duty and other taxes on it.

Free = no brown envelopes = no import permission = no vaccines

Let me know when these million doses arrive.

Politics is more important than public health. The Pfizer doses ran afoul of some sort of political group and the Polish vaccines had some problems as well. The government could have facilitiated both deals but found it advantageous not to. It's clear where their priorities lay.

Thailand is such a mess when it comes to vaccines.

Australia totally ballsed up their rollout and they’re at 80% vaccinated and soon to be 90%.

while Thailand needs to form committees to work out which leech gets what and how much.

Sad for the ordinary Thai

Let's hope the paperwork isn't in Polish and they have a pen

And will the paperwork again be left in someone's inbox while they attend to more lucrative important matters?

This time the needed letter will be given????

Dose that mean we will get a refund for those that have put our money down months ago or will they just keep it and buy more Sinovac vaccines?

Red tape?

Won't the USA ever learn ?  Fool me once, etc...

Yes but ...  The American government will find a way.  There may well be strings attached to this gift, attached themselves to brown envelopes. Why I just don't know, that American government just doesn't learn.

I wonder how many of this batch will be mysteriously miscounted by America when they send them haha..

Because the USA has a far greater " media reach" if you were to mess them around by allowing various "interested parties" to get involved, than Poland does.

Absolutely not a reflection on the generosity of Poland, but a reflection of the self interested "real politik" which drives this comic opera chorus line!

Just like Thailand leaders!  When you are given something free just say thank you! There isn't one country on the face of this earth that isn't living in a glass house if it wasn't for the donation of the Pfizer many expat not just American would not be vaccinated expat I know regardless what their political view said thanks and that includes Thais especially all their front line workers.

As I understand it they're in peoples arms. What are you suggesting?

You got two of the 1.5 million the US had already donated free, not the extra 1 million that they also wanted to donate back in July but did not because they were waiting for the paperwork for weeks from the Thai government.

It seems this donation is a replacement to that.

Delivered weeks ago.
