Thailand reports 7,305 new COVID-19 cases, 51 deaths and 7,900 recoveries

Thailand on Friday (November 12) reported 7,305 new COVID-19 cases, 7,900 recoveries and 51 additional deaths over the past 24 hours. 

 

▶︎ Total infections since April 1: 1,975,411

▶︎ Total recoveries since since April 1: 1,861,110

 

Friday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 2,004,274 with 19,9934 deaths.

 

The news comes as cCases of false-positive results from sub-standard COVID-19 antigen test kits have recently made the news, with affected people later tested negative from confirmatory RT-PCR tests. Thailand’s Prime Minister has urged the Ministry of Public Health to regulate the quality of test kits available in the market to ensure accurate results and the safety of users.

 

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has encouraged the general public to select only COVID-19 antigen test kits (ATK) authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

 

The Prime Minister ordered Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul to regulate the quality of test kits available in the market, and prosecute those selling unauthorized kits.

Phuket marks 53 new COVID cases, no new deaths

 

PHUKET: The latest Phuket Provincial Public Health Office (PPHO) daily COVID situation report has marked 53 new local infections confirmed across the island yesterday (Nov 11) bringing the total number of people recognised as infected with COVID-19 in Phuket since Apr 3 to 16,139.

Infection data for today are as follows

 

Total New PCR Infections = 7,305

Community Infection = 6,985

Prison Infection = 320

Total positive cases (ATK/Antigen) = 2,851

Total New Death = 51

Total New Recovery = 7,900

Total Infection including PRC & ATK = 10,156

Total infections so far since outbreak = 2,004,274

Total deaths so far since outbreak = 19,934

Total in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) = 1,824

Total number on life support (ventilator) - 423

The government’s data on ‘Positive testing’ numbers as a percentage of the tests it undertakes stands at 11.81% as of November 11.

The yoyo is working again as we have a slight increase from the 70 cases previously.

 

Health officials on Thursday (Nov 11) reported 88 new COVID-19 cases, 25 were found in Hua Hin.

Elsewhere in the province, 15 cases were found in Pranburi, 3 cases in Sam Roi Yot, zero cases in Kuiburi, zero cases found in Thap Sakae, 44 cases in Bang Saphan, zero cases in Bang Saphan Noi, and 1 case in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan. No deaths were report today.

In Hua Hin, most cases were found in Hua Hin district, while 2 new clusters were also discovered in Bang Saphan. The first was among staff at a fishing boat business, while another cluster was found among people at migrant workers community. Both clusters have resulted in a total of 62 cases.

Todays numbers see another fall in the number of deaths with the official number of recoveries exceeding the number of new cases. 
 

Latest up to to date official data from the worldometer ranking table for deaths/million of population over the past 7 days, including yesterday’s numbers, shows Thailand drop 2 places at 72nd in the world, 28 places below the UK.

 

Same table shows Thailand remain at 14th in Asia, 5 places below the Philippines and 3 places above Vietnam. 
 

The number of deaths over the past week remained very low at 6 deaths/million of population, trending down 8% over the 7 day period, with the number of official infections falling 8%. .

WHO Thailand with this weeks situation report

The number of severe cases decreased by 10% over the last week compared to a decrease of 9% in the week before. Similarly, ventilated cases decreased by 11% over the last week compared to 10% in the week prior. 

 

As with new community cases, the rate of decrease for severe and ventilated cases has stayed about the same for the last couple of weeks.

Although numbers of confirmed cases are also decreasing in Southern Thailand, today there are still five Provinces in the top ten most affected including Songkhla (2nd after Bangkok with 524 cases), Nakhon Si Thammarat, (4th with 375 cases), Pattani (5th with 368 cases), Yala,(7th with 275 cases and Surat Thani, (9th with 233 cases)

 

Despite the decreasing trends, COVID-19 infections remain widespread across Thailand. The low vaccination rates in pregnant women continues to be a significant cause for concern.

I'm not sure if anyone has noted this before, but on the graph for the 7 day rolling average of cases, it says:

 

"Due to limited testing, the number of confirmed cases is lower than the true number of infections."

Very possibly, they bought 8.5 million of the faulty ones and were warned against it. The US and even India banned them

Yes, but it's all quite inconsequential, unless you're unlucky enough to get very sick from Covid. I would think numbers (fake or otherwise) will hover around this rate for months and months to come, possible years.

Yes, probably the new norm as is the  40,000 or so reported numbers in the UK.

Perspective comes in the UK hospital figures with covid patients, just 8,859 and Thailand's up again to 44,004 being treated in real hospitals. Probably one of the reasons it makes news here and not so much the UK.

 

Perspective comes with the UK's testing that captures a far better picture of the true amount of cases of covid positive and deaths making the comparison with Thailand useless. From yesterday.............

 

 

When there are still communities being locked down in Thailand especially in Provinces where tourists venture then news it is.

The government will reach its target of administering 100 million doses by the end of November, one month faster than expected, PM Prayut said on Friday.

 

#Thailand has administered 82.5 million doses, with 49% of the population fully vaccinated as of November 10.

The numbers may well hover, we will probably never know, but serious cases will not due to the vaccine coverage that will be the norm along with the new drugs that are now starting to come out, so making this an endemic feature where we live our lives as normal as possible and let the scientists do the worrying instead.

Some may take a wider look at the overall number of infections/deaths and compare that to the detrimental effect on people’s lives and livelihoods and decided it’s time to move on. 
 

That’s what the UK did and decided it was time to learn to live with it and give people those lives back. 
 

Seems Thailand is looking to follow suit. 

 

More will be revealed at the upcoming meetings as to whether they will further relax restrictions to allow people to get those lives back on track and boost the economy, or they will continue to restrict it. 
 

The data suggests the former should happen in time for the busy period.

As for Thailand moving on, of course it will, who is suggesting it wouldn't? My post above made it very clear that it will move on and become endemic.

Good news, when the milestone actually happens they should organize a national thank you day to all the health volunteers, doctors and nurses who helped make this happen, working on the front line daily.

 

As for Prayut and Anutin, they should make a national apology that they didn't listen to the experts and buy them sooner. That would show humility and responsible leadership. Not going to happen I know but always good to think positive.
