The prospect that people will be able to celebrate Christmas or New Year with a glass of wine or beer in a pub, bar or nightclub in Thailand is growing closer, notes ASEAN NOW.

Yesterday the CCSA spokeswoman Dr Apisamai Srirangsan indicated that the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority were pressing to get more nighttime establishments and bars to have SHA+ accreditation.

This would be a precursor to their perhaps being allowed to open fully and serve alcohol albeit under the "Covid Free Setting" rules and protocols.

The next big meeting of the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration that will have the final say is this Friday, November 26th.

With five weeks to Christmas and six to New Year many people - not least foreign tourists who have found much of Thailand dry or will do if arriving this week -  will be hoping to celebrate the festive season more freely.

In a report by Channel 7 Dr Apisamai gave the latest Covid-19 figures and mentioned the survey of bars in Bangkok.

She was positive about the lowering of infections generally though mentioned areas areas where there were 100+ daily cases of the virus and people testing higher than 5% with ATK tests.

These were in Songkhla, Trang, Surat Thani, Krabi and Nakhon Sri Thammarat.

Khon Kaen, Sa Kaeo and Korat had less positive ATK tests.

Saraburi, Ubon, Udon, Kanchanaburi and Prachuap Khirikhan fell into the 80-100 cases a day range.

Highest numbers of infections were Bangkok with 815, Songkhla, 457 and Nakhon Sri Thammarat with 438.

The survey by the BMA in Bangkok of some 975 of 1,443 nightclubs and bars showed only 225 had full SHA+ accreditation and more were urged to seek this.

The media interpreted this action as a "chance for pubs and bars" in their headline.

A headline that ASEAN NOW cautions contained a question mark.

Visa-compliant insurance plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m

Poor bar owners again, this is gonna happen that is gonna happen then not and then another useless story like this for them and always hanging on the next CCSA muppet meeting. Plus I guess even if they approve then its only because tourists really are not coming to Thailand eh, thus its all about the Benjamins and not peoples health and wellbeing.

Better to not print anything until there is an actual outcome.

Will this be Prayuts gift to the nation... open bars at New Year?

not sure what they are trying to accomplish with all the restrictions, it's pointless, and won't stop another wave of infections in Thailand

I worked in Saudi for 5 years where we couldn't openly interact with women, drink or celebrate Xmas/NYE.

I can't believe Thailand thinks we'll jump through hoops at huge cost just to enjoy the same experience lol

Where can you apply for a SHA accreditation???

Once again, to little to late. With the time scale mentioned, those wishing to come to Thailand may not be able to make the necessary arrangements to travel.

Well rather than going to Thailand again this year as I would have liked I have booked a holiday in Gran Canaria.  No restrictions or need for Covid test if you are fully vaccinated.

High and low season is a pre covid concept which is no longer relevant. There will never be another high season again. There will be peak tourist travel times determined by the Chinese tourist needs.

Nothing to do with arrogance. Everything to do with caution and disease prevention. With Covid-19 sweeping through Europe and lockdowns being reintroduced in Germany, Austria, Holland etc it wise of the Thai government to be cautious. The white entitlement of western tourists does not and should determine Thai national health policy. The Thai people don't want a return to mass tourism.

Good choice. Once you factor in the transport cocts its no more expensive and far cleaner. No rip offs, bars open, no pollution.

Good idea.

No just go to their web page but ensure you have a food licence first as too many bars are saying they are a restaurant

I bet cancellations are going through the roof as we speak, and they will make a new 180 announcement next week ????
