The OP letter is referring to covid extensions which were due to end Nov 26 will now still be available for issue up to Jan 25.

How did you enter Thailand.

If with visa exempt or tourist visa they will make you obtain the 'standard' 30 day extension first.

Expiry date of current permission of stay?

Which country for passport renewal?

Doubt it.

You can obtain standard extension to your visa exempt.

That takes you through till Jan 19th.

Perfect timing...obtain covid extension prior to Jan 19.

That 60 days would be possible till ~19 March.

Re land borders. Bit surprised in this comment from R Barrow.

It looks like  on the 24th of next month they will opening the border crossing between Nong Khai and Vientiane. No details yet. I suspect it will only be for those fully vaccinated.

Given the current situation in Myanmar I don't think the borders will open any time soon to there.

Nothing new for a the covid 19 extension.

You would not be able to enter Laos with a passport valid for less than 6 months.

You can apply for a new passport sent to the US embassy by mail and it only takes about 2 weeks to get it.

See: https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/passports/adult-passport-renew/

You can stay in Thailand with your passport until it expires.

See my previous about getting a new one here.
