Standard & Poor's downgrade True Corp to B+

June 6, 2007 : Last updated 02:38 pm (Thai local time)

Standard & Poor's Ratings Services downgraded its corporate credit rating on the country's integrated communications provider True Corp Plc to B+ from BB with negative outlook due to low earnings visibility and the risk of higher regulatory costs related to the pending interconnection settlement and access charges of its cellular subsidiary, True Move Co Ltd.

The rating agency cited that the rating may be lowered further if the group is unable to address its near term liquidity issues and if its financial ratios continue to weaken materially. However, the outlook could be changed to stable if the company improves its gearing position and turns around its profitability and cash flow measures with no deterioration in its business profile.

According to the statement, the company continued to book net recurring losses in the first three months of this year. Profitability pressure in the fixed-line and wireless segments should persist amid intense competition and regulatory uncertainties in the domestic telecom market.

Awful company...except for their Internet service, which is like a one-eyed man in the land of the blind, so thus the best by default, their front-end features (website, customer support, commercial centers) are a disgrace. They try to offer so many services and be "cool", but fail miserably...

At one of the Internet cafes they operate they installed Windows Vista in January and even equipped their staff with "Windows Vista Expert" t-shirts, but they clearly had no clue about the operating system and the computers were crashing every few minutes - PATHETIC.

Hmmmm, goes out of business and service cut off mid-month? Think I should pay my bill this time around? :o

Perhaps just upgrade the programming from "abysmal" to "normal" on the TV satellite service, and it might turn around the company's fortunes. Some things seem so obvious.... :D

True Visions to spend Bt2 bn for English Premier League right

PayTV operator True Visions will spend around Bt2 billion for three years on the broadcasting rights for the English Premier League and associated programme promotional activities.

True Visions clinched the three-year exclusive licence in Thailand several months ago before making the official announcement Wednesday.

Supachai Chearavanont, chief executive of True Corp, parent of True Visions, said Wednesday that the cost of the three-year licence, plus the company's programme campaigns, was around Bt600 million per year or a total of about Bt2 billion for three years.

True Visions will broadcast all 380 matches per season, beginning next season. The programme will be available free of charge for its existing Gold and Platinum package subscribers.

Does this meant the Premiership won't be shown on ESPN and STAR Sports in Thailand anymore? Their commentary is quite good. But they're based out of Singapore and provide the games for the region. Anyone know?

To anyone who thinks the programming horrible. How can watching all the Premiership games every week be abysmal? You can't get that even in England. Football's all you need, right? Plus you get CNN and BBC to keep up on other news.

Edit to note that the article says "exclusive" rights, so I guess I answered my own question. Hope they'll still be the option of hearing the broadcast with the English announcers? Please don't give us only Thai announcers, True Corp. No disrespect but I can only stand so much, "OH-HO!!, Lampard, OH-HO!! Rooney" when a strike is missed.
