Popular Post webfact
Picture: INN Thai media is falling over themselves trying to blame the new Omicron variant for damaging the bar scene, if an INN "report" is anything to go by. They published an online report full of palpable errors and omissions. Firstly they said that the Soi 4 area or Nana Tai was famous for being an area for Africans. While in pre-pandemic times the area across the road (Soi 3) was frequented by many Africans and middle eastern people, Soi 4 is not well known for this. INN said there were no people from the eight countries banned from Thailand from southern Africa because of the emergence of the Omicron variant. Well, people from southern Africa could still be there as the ban only came into place a few days ago. INN reported that a consequence of this was empty bars. No, the bars are empty because they are not allowed to open until at least mid-January on edicts from the CCSA, PM and Bangkok's governor. Picture: INN If they opened they'd be raided and prosecuted. Then - after claiming that the whole area was deserted of tourists - they said that restaurants near the end of the soi were packed with Europeans and Americans. This was hardly surprising as they are now allowed to open to 11 pm. They used the word tourists - local expats would probably be far more exact. They mentioned the protocols were in place for "Covid Free Setting" and all were SHA accredited. ASEAN NOW brings you this 'news' not to show any kind of reality, but to show the nonsense that Thai readers are being subjected to by local press desperate to blame and link stories to Omicron, misleading the public about the reason the bars are empty and generally presenting a biased version of 'news' under the guise of informed reporting. Popular Post ezzra
The only tourists that comes to Thailand now are those who comes for the beaches, food and culture, all those millions who used to come for the above and the nightlife of Thailand are waiting to waiting in the wind for more favorable easier conditions to come here... 11

The only odd thing is it says one day when the typical requirement is 72 hours. Also, the bars and nightlife in the US is not highly dependent on tourists/foreigners, unlike a lot of places in Thailand. That was a joke about the bars, but the whole point in the 1 day and the ( Air passengers will also be required to confirm in the form of an attestation that the information they present is true.) requirement sounds like the fit to fly stuff here. The response to Covid and the highly selective nature of the shutdowns, would indicate the possibility of deliberate sabotage of nightlife.
Popular Post spidermike007
Do the people of Thailand finally see how they have been misled, mishandled, bamboozled, forsaken, and abused by the hapless army, and the goons in charge? If they could not see it before, it is so obvious now. 99.9% of the Thais I talk to are so far beyond fed up. And if the 3-5% who drank the kool-aid still believed, after this latest covid debacle, Prayuth, Anutin and the gang have been truly unmasked to a humiliating and inglorious degree. Popular Post connda
I would venture to speculate that a virus is a nice excuse to consolidate power and implement draconian restrictions on the public that the government has for years hinted that it wanted. The government has used a virus as the excuse to clean the low-class entrepreneurial 'riff-raff' (poorer people iiking out a marginal living as street vendors) off the the street, to clean out small business and redirect that income to larger "connected" "essential" businesses, and to literally drive a stake through the heart of the Thai night-life and entertainment industry. I've had Thai friends who have been put out of business. Chiang Mai Thapae area is a testament to boarded up shops and failed businesses. I don't see the government stopping this campaign until the larger city's previous businesses who obtained their incomes from foreign tourism are completely snuffed out and destroyed as well as completely destroying nightlife and entertainment venues catering to Thais. Every time these businesses flicker back to life the government through their MSM will scream, "New Variant!!!" This can go on forever. In the meanwhile will come privacy destroying 'Virus Passports' which will restrict the movements of population whenever needed. Remember - as early as March 2020 the public was promised a New Normal. Well - this is the new normal ya'll were promised. A destruction of most businesses that supported lower and middle class entrepreneurs all of which will be replaced with specially licensed "clean" businesses (SHA blah blah) who are connected to the Thai power elite. If you need to keep the commoners in place from here on out - simply yell, "New Variant!" and they all will snap right back in line......Ad-infinitum. This doesn't end. Promise. 12

They are worthless with the exception of the N95-N99 variety. We can research each other to death. "My research say...." "Yeah but my research say..." I boils down to being two separate and equally passionate camps of individuals. Fearful individuals who wish to live as a centrally controlled collective for their perceived safety who urge the use of the force of the collective to beat individuals into submission; and Rational individuals who wish to live as individuals. This is just opinion. We all have our opinions. Now comes the censorship of the collectivists imposed on the individual, but that's another can or worms. In my opinion. Masks? I play along to get along. To a point. Edited December 4, 2021 by connda

Currently stuck in UK, but received my booster on 29th November and although I like going to Thailand I'm in no particular hurry to go anywhere at the moment, especially not to a complete fluster cluck. Both countries have similar populations. The UK has much higher vaccination rates, and also a higher tolerance to death numbers. Thailand gets 50 deaths a day, and the nation panics. The UK gets 200 a day, and nobody bats an eyelid. As for masks, I hate wearing them, and I know that the masks most people wear aren't very effective at all in preventing you from picking up the virus. They are more effective (albeit far from perfect) at stopping you spread the virus if you have it. There does seem very little point making people wear them outdoors though. I don't think I'd want to take a holiday anywhere where I have to wear a mask most of the time though. I find it too uncomfortable. It feels 'mildly suffocating', like the annoyance of having a blocked nose. I also don't really like having things on my face/head. I hate wearing hats, even when it's really cold, for example. I have to wear glasses to drive, and it's always a relief to take them off. I can fully understand why nations bring in such restrictions. I'm just against the logic of where they are applied. 8

True enough about the vaccine take up, but lets face it this will still be pretty much the same when more get vaccinated, and I don't know the figures but it must be pretty high here now % wise. As for the masks, I can see us being 'told' you wear them for frigging years..
