Archos Portable Media Players

I have been looking at buying the new Archos 704 Wifi Media player but wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with them first hand. Is there anywhere you can purchase these in Thailand?

I had an Archos read write USB CD drive. It was truly a piece of SH!T. The support sucked. It ruined many new disks and on occasion destroyed information on disks that worked fine until I put them in the Archos. I bought it to use with my laptop. It met its end when I had a tantrum and bounced it off the wall on the other side of the room. They may have improved but that was the last Archos device I will EVER buy.

I have the 'pocketdish' av 500 .. same same arcos 30 gig

had for over 1 year & use extensively w/o problem.

why?

1. it records both music & movies.
   
2. acts as an external HD for any & all files .. my computer sees it as an external HD.
   
3. is a USB hub!.. my digital camera plugs directly into the av 500 via usb
   
4. replaceable 10 hour battery .. I purchased a second battery on amazon .. can play mp3s for 20 hours .. videos on the 5' screen are a joke & use the battery quickly.
   
5. come with external hardware interface / battery charger / av in out w/ a remote.
   

excellent ear buds .. sound better than my $180 sony noise canceling over ear head phones.

i often record several hours of sirius satellite radio in a day .. must convert from windows media to mp3.

back up my 'lubb it tu mutt' tivo-ed videos in avi format.

with the right dish receiver it records digital via usb .. will save pre-recorded files at USB-1 speed

easy to use interface / browser w/ update-able firm ware .. i downloaded & updated the firm ware last weekend.

can make play lists .or. I create directories with song groups ..

traveling I plug it into "powered speakers" for an in room stereo w/ 10,000 songs!

I'd purchase another one!

Pumper, why did you decide to buy the AV500? Has that got the 100GB HD.

The 704 has only been released in Oz in the last week. The thing that really annoys me is that they are so expensive over here. The 704 wifi 80GB is retailing for approx $1050 but you can pick one up on ebay in the US for about $650. Why is this?? Does anyone know.?? If I purchased on from US would all the features work in Oz (ie Wifi)??
