A Chinese backpacking tourist, who travelled to Thailand alone to explore the country about two years ago, became stranded, homeless and broke when China suddenly closed its borders to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

That was until 35-year old Jang Jia met a kind-hearted Thai, Somnuek Jenjirawat. His struggle for survival, in the middle of the concrete jungle of Bangkok, reads like the script of the 2004 American comedy-drama “The Terminal”, starring Tom Hanks, about an Eastern European man stuck at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport when he is denied entry to the US but cannot return to his native country because of a military coup.

According to Jang, the air fare to fly home had increased sharply, from thousands of baht to tens of thousands, and only a few airlines resumed flights to China when lockdown restrictions were eased to allow Chinese nationals to return.

According to that what I saw on Beach Road and bars in pre Covid times, there must have been many tattooed "quality tourists" without even one shirt.

Having read the full article and watched the film I have to say it really doesn’t.

So China did not have repatriation flights to bring their citizens home like many other countries? Or did the young man not want to be in the debt of his government.  Not close to the movie the Terminal.

No, I see people went back to china. I don’t think he wants to go back until he is currently broke.

Castaway then? Another bad one he did!

Wow, no family or friends to help him out, even the Chinese Embassy to offer somekind of assistance, his story doesn't gel well with me as we all have contacts and or either debit or credit card/s and I have to say at 35 if you haven't put something away for a rainy day, you have to be one of those leachers which I believe he is.

Shame the Thai guy couldn't focus more on his own citizens who are suffering from their own governments actions, instead of this guy IMO.

Keeping it clean for the big night out!

In my modest opinion; with timely care he should have been able to return to China in due time before everything closed, and do an entry-isolation, just like many citizens from numerous countries did it.

Fill his backpack up with ALL the Wuhan Covid they can scrape up and hire a plane to take him and their virus home!

This dude is clearly a free spirit, a rarity from where he hails. Likely doesn’t want to return to commie Fort Knox and don’t blame him.

TVF, the forum that takes a story of compassion and turns into racist drivel and disgusting negativity.

Not one positive comment on the compassion that this story is about - a disgraceful place this forum has become.  For some reason this racism is tolerated as it is so common in so many threads.

I have to agree.   A lot of people got caught in situations well beyond their control.  Some by circumstances, some by their own actions, some by a misjudged or misguided actions.

I agree with you I get banned for someone I call a bootlicker wich he is and now most properly again

This is first article in which I have heard of a China national suffering from the China virus that they seeded around the world.

Maybe he is from Hong Kong and don't want the help from the CCP. The Thai Government should give him a helping hand to stay here.

The Laos-China Railway, just over the Friendship Bridge is now complete.

He just likes to say that anyone who has a negative written post or full of criticism is a Basher and is not happy, but then that's the way it comes across when I read what was written.
