Popular Post webfact Posted January 9, 2022 Popular Post Posted January 9, 2022 By Nop Meechukhun Chonburi – A Norwegian national, 55, filed a complaint to investigators at the Sattahip Police Station in Chonburi against his Cambodian “girlfriend” who reportedly defrauded him out of nearly 200,000 baht, claiming she was taking his money to arrange documents for marriage at the Norwegian Embassy. The man, whose full name has been withheld and will be referred to only as Kyrie, told the Sattahip officials that he met his girlfriend, Sreem-mom, who is Cambodian but worked and lived in Chonburi, for the first time in person in the Bang Saray Subdistrict in late 2019 after starting to build a relationship on social media platforms previously. They began a romantic relationship afterwards and promised to get married in Norway. He then flew back to his home country in early 2020, however, the Covid-19 Coronavirus had started spreading across the globe, making him unable to fly back to Thailand. So, both of them had to begin a long-distance relationship via video calls for nearly two years. Popular Post Upnotover Posted January 9, 2022 Popular Post Posted January 9, 2022 Idiot. Do they have the crime "wasting police time" in Thailand? 3 1 4
Popular Post RichardColeman Posted January 9, 2022 Popular Post Posted January 9, 2022 His attorney, Prateep Nakbangkerd, told the local media that filing such complaints may bring justice and can be a case study for foreigners living in Thailand who are defrauded and lied to. Never happen, not enough money in Thai circulation to pay that off debt 1 1 7
Popular Post Fat is a type of crazy Posted January 9, 2022 Popular Post Posted January 9, 2022 Too bad. Had he sent a one off amount that matched the cost of say, a marriage visa application, his case may have had some small chance. But it appears he regularly sent 1000 baht payments too her for 'help'. It looks like support and gifts rather than being for a particular purpose. He's just adding insult to injury. 8 1

Popular Post RandiRona Posted January 9, 2022 Popular Post Posted January 9, 2022 "tell him to transfer money to help her, a total of about 1,000 baht for each time" I think it just a simple miscofusion. She was pay per zoom session. 200 sessions , Marriage is extra...well I would say worth it Monsieur!! 3

Popular Post Gecko123 Posted January 10, 2022 Popular Post Posted January 10, 2022 (edited) Interesting case... He's claiming that the money was neither a gift, an engagement gift, or sin sod. It was money paid for a specific commercial purpose: arranging documents at an embassy, which she failed to do. He's saying that contract law should apply, not marital property law. Clever argument. Gottfrid Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 The money was for arranging documents for marriage at the Norwegian embassy? 200 000 for documents? Did she have to travel in taxi from Cambodia? 1
PJPom Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 Hey fellow posters let’s not laugh too hard, too many men have been caught in the same way. Some have been lucky and learned a lesson , others have decided to join the “flying clubs “ as frequently reported. He would be wise to drop all actions and move to another country in the area, live and learn, not really a large sum to pay for the lesson. 2

Making an agreement with somebody concerning money is not stupid . It needs Thai people to understand that foreigners are not open fodder for stealing from. 3
mikebell Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 This particular police station is a bye-word for ineptitude and corruption even here in Thailand. My wife was fiddled out of 15K by one officer who promised to make my next year's visa 'difficult'. Meanwhile a friend has been subjected to a vendetta of false accusations by a neighbour who 'owns' an officer there; four visits from several officers. Another friend had an appointment with a high ranking officer who had failed to sign papers. Arriving on time on the appointed date, he was told the officer had gone shopping in Bangkok with his daughter. 1 1 1

Not something to quirp about . It is predominantly Thai people that have the tendency to believe they can steal money from foreigners with no consequences here in Thailand . 3

He gave her money, she got cold feet, where is the crime? If you came to a police station in Norway with this accuse, you would not have a case. Im positive it would have been dismissed. 1
