Windows Kisosk - any ideas?

Featured Replies

Win10 Kisosk has many problems.

It will not allow me to play many video files, only a few, all others are 'not supported'

I have to manually choose Repeat every time, as the default repeat function doesn't work.

I just did a Clean install on the PC, so the OS shouldn't be corrupted.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I'd like to be able to have a video repeat atuomatically, without having to manualy chose Repeat, every time it goes into Kiosk mode.

Thank you

What media player are you using? Try installing VLC Media Player.  It's free and will play virtually everything.

It's available from https://www.videolan.org/

I have found VLC to be the best player for years.

I have Windows 10 pro

I want to be able to run a video on the screen, while protecting PC files from access.

Can I do this with Shell Launcher? I've never used it.
Its all about denying access to my files, while playiing a video on the screen.

ALSO
I used to just use a different User account, but found that all the files in my D folder were accessable. Do you know any way to secure those files, while logged in as another user?

That is IMHO just a matter of Security!

Have you tried Media Kiosk app or enabled the additional codecs in Windows for their media player?

win_icon.gif Windows 11:

You can acquire the package through Windows settings:
Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & Features > Optional Features > Add a feature > Media Feature Pack

win_icon.gif Windows 10 version 1903/1909/2004/2009:

You can acquire the package through Windows settings:
Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & Features > Optional Features > Add a feature > Media Feature Pack

Add

Code:
mpc-hc "c:\myvideo.mkv" /fullscreen"

in HKLM\...\Run via msconfig.

Whenever a new video needs to be loaded, kill MPC, replace the video, and reboot (or just restart MPC). It has an option for "repeat forever" which is remembered between sessions.

Make sure the kiosk has no keyboard or mouse, and is physically secured.

What is MPC?

HKLM = HKEY Local Machine in registry

MPC-HK is an open source media player for windows. Don't know if that would work in win10 pro as I see it has not been supported since 2017 so probably best not to use it.
