Look at how many unconcerned people it takes to inspect a Zebra crossing ! And none of them know the answer as to what to do so they want to get rid of it !! Pathetic.

It would be comical if it weren’t so tragic! It reminds of a Belgian joke: how many people do you need to change a bulb on a ceiling lamp? Answer 6: one holding the bulb and tive to move the chair around.

On thing I forgot to mention is that you don't overtake [should I mention undertaking as it could be seen as callous on this thread] when approaching or in an intersection. While this is absolute common sense for western road users it seems to be a totally out outlandish concept for the Thais.

The road could easily be made safer by installing rumble strips and speed bumps. All roads can be designed to make them safer. Any long stretch of road without some form of barrier will invite speeding

You think Thai drivers have any form of discipline? They don't!

Not to mention that most of the time it’s hot and sweaty in Thailand, so it’s quite an effort for any of us to get up and down those stairs as the sun is beating down on you.

sure build more overpasses.

that would be great for disabled people.

they have still have not built lifts at all the bts stops as was ordered by court years ago.

the court gave them 1year to complete.  never happened.

they do not care about disabled people in this country!!

Yep although the solution is quite simple. Install a huge sleeping policeman (speed hump) and speed cameras which fine you 2,000 baht for going over the speed limit. I think you'll find that will incentivise people to slow down. It does here anyhow!!

One way of preventing people getting hit at a pedestrian crossing ...would be to install the warning devices listed as missing in the article

That's exactly what the article said they'd do!...

Pathetic? Really?   They didn't say that was the only option...

After they painted all those little squares on the  side and down

middle of the road, then they thought a bit more ,and decided

the best way was to get rid of it, leaving people to run over the

road to cross it.

No, not exactly...

Indeed. Tremendous loss of face in having one of their fellow men hit a pedestrian, in what was obviously the wrong place, the crosswalk. Solution? Remove the crosswalk.

Indeed not.  Read the full article...

Also, forget all those rumours about the bike not having a plate, not being registered, not even his bike, "borrowed" from the well known RTP toy box called police impound. All FAKE NEWS.

These confirmed charges are "fake news", are they?...

Speeding

Reckless driving causing death
Using a vehicle without a licence plate
Failing to keep his motorcycle in the left lane
Failing to give way to someone using a pedestrian crossing
Using a vehicle with unpaid annual registration tax
Using a vehicle that lacked required equipment
Not having third-party vehicle insurance.

It has also been confirmed that he bought the bike, it had not been impounded.

So much 'consideration', so little action, as with all government functions.

You could always read the full article!

Perfect (Thai) solution: instead of doing something about it, why not just remove the problem? Problem solved, innit?

Perfect Thaivisa poster response, instead of reading the article just bang out an inaccurate comment...

And there lays the biggest problem RTP, they want to remove the cross walk!

No, the biggest problem is posters not being able to read.  From the article...

There are lifts or escalators like they have in Singapore and other countries which they can use.

Garbage.  Where exactly in Thailand are any of these lifts and escalators provided for people just wanting to cross the roads to use?
