Popular Post snoop1130
The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation and various environmental organisations have agreed to tighten up measures to protect wild tigers in the western forests of the country after two tigers were shot dead by suspected poachers early last month and a cattle herder was attacked by a tiger in Thong Pha Phum district of Kanchanaburi province. Officials from the department and representatives from the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Seub Nakhasathien Foundation, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the Freeland Foundation and Panthera Thailand met yesterday (Tuesday) to develop measures aimed at protecting wild tigers, the population of which is dwindling as a result of poaching for their precious hides and organs. Another part of the plan to protect the species is to try to push them back deep into the forest. Some of the measures include: A ban on the raising of cattle in national parks and wildlife sanctuaries located in the southern parts of the western forests, except for in some designated areas. Violators of the measure will face a maximum of two years in prison and/or a maximum fine of 200,000 baht if convicted. (maximum of one year and/or maximum fine of 100,000 baht each for National Park Act violation and Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act) Officials must conduct a survey of the number of cattle raised in the national parks and wildlife sanctuaries and complete their reports within a month. Outsiders hiring local villagers to raise their cattle within the national park will be punishable under law. A joint committee of the department and environmental organisations will be formed to formulate and implement a ten-year plan for the conservation of wild tigers. The tiger's were there well before he and his family and farm animals arrived. Stupid man and family for living in the tiger's habitat. I live in Pattaya and want to protect my family from Somchai who may kill my family and pets, does that give me permission to kill all of the Somchai's in Pattaya?

Tropposurfer
Sadly I would say one of the only ways to protect them is to fence them into a large, large section of forest, train and appoint 24 hour armed and ready rangers to protect them along with high-the surveillance stuff to keep and nab the bl.ody trash who want to kill them. God's know we have taken enough of the wild for ourselves. Does anybody know if Thailand has a like program of tree houses in tiger country you can go stay in and watch them from scaring them off and trashing their environment? connda
When everyone from construction tycoons to common villagers are blasting these animals on sight - not much hope is there.
rudi49jr
Maybe they could start by rounding up a couple of wildlife trafficking kingpins and throw them in jail for the rest of their lives. But there is just too much money involved in this business, and we all know that if you have enough money in Thailand, you are untouchable.
